This is the first of two CHANNING episodes written by Bob Kaufman; he would also pen the season (and series) finale. Michael Beirne makes the first of two appearances in the CHANNING series; he returns as a diifferent character in Episode 26. Kip King plays his second small role in a CHANNING episode; he first appeared in Episode 4. Kip King [real name Jerome Kattan] is the father of former SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE regular, Chris Kattan.
MCHALE'S NAVY regulars, Joe Flynn, Tim Conway, and Roy Roberts, make "special guest appearances" in this episode. MCHALE'S NAVY, like CHANNING, began as a 1962 pilot on the ALCOA PREMIERE anthology series. MCHALE'S NAVY made it into the ABC fall line-up in fall 1962 with CHANNING following in fall 1963. ALCOA PREMIERE production number for "Seven Against The Sea" [McHale pilot] was 15812; for "The Best Years" [Channing pilot] was 15813.
Weird, no one has discussed Channing yet.
