Charles and Buddy have been away at Great Gorge on a hiking trip and had a terrific time. When they arrive back at the Pembrokes however things are NOT the way they are supposed to be - literally! Charles is stunned to find that the Pembroke family are moving to Seattle after Stan has been transferred and that they have sub-let their house to the Powell family- mother Ellen (Sandra Kerns), father-in-law Walter (James Callahan) and the three children, Jamie, (Nicole Eggert) Sarah, (Josie Davis) and Adam (Alexander Polinsky). In a heart wrenching farewell, Jason (Michael Pearlman) returns to help his mother, Jill (played for this episode by Lisa Donovan) pack up the rest of their things. Both Jason and Charles are devastated that they must part and even Buddy is deeply saddened that the family are moving.

To begin with, Charles very much agrees with Buddy's suggestion that he should run while he can and move into an on-campus dorm with him but Sarah beseechingly asks him to stay and take care of them the way he did with the Pembroke children. Always a sucker for kids, Charles agrees and the Powell children now have themselves a Charles to help them grow up.

Terrific episode but very sad when Jason says his goodbyes to Charles.
