In the comic strip Patty and Violet were major Charaters for a long time and they were main charaters in the early specials?

Patty has aburn shoulder length hair she wears a bow in her hair and wears a plaid dress.Violet has raven black hair in a ponytale and wears a green dress.

Mine are Patty and Violet of course.

Patty and Violet may have been long-time characters in the strips and specials, but once Peppermint Patty and Marcie came along, the other two stepped to the side. Nowadays, Peppermint Patty and Marcie are more well-known, so I'm sticking with them.

I liked Peppermint Patty and Marcie, but I like Patty and Violet too because they were basically originals and they should've been in the comics a little more, as well as the series.

They were in the comics more. But once Peppermint Patty and Marcie Johnson showed up, they took center stage.

I haven't read much of the original strips but it seems that the appearances of Marcie and Peppermint Patty are much more important in the specials than Violet and Patty, who seem mainly to stand there. The biggest role I can think of Violet playing is buying shaving lotion for her teacher in Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown. Marcie and Peppermint Patty are key players in several of the specials, such as There's No Time for Love, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. They are so opposite that they go together so nicely.

Yep. Even with their mutual crush on "Chuck", I doubt we'd see the twosome split anytime soon.

Any particular reasons why (besides the obvious of their longevity outlasting Patty & Violet)?

Their love triangle with "Chuck" solidified their place, I think.

I never really liked Patty & Violet personalities much, specially in early 50'ths strips. They're pretty much the same: spoiled, egoistic and usually mean to Charlie Brown. Peppermint Patty and Marcie are both funny, have perfect chemistry and have that CB love triangle thing going on that's so amazing. Their personalities are so different yet they get along so well. I vote for them.

Too true, but then EVERYONE--including his own dog--would be mean to "the round-headed kid", because CB is the everyman artetype of the loveable loser.
