Charlie Chalk

Show Summary

Circus clown Charlie falls asleep in his boat whilst fishing and awakens to find himself stranded on the desert island of Merrytwit, where he encounters a bunch of new unusual friends. This stop-motion animated series for the BBC aired only for one season.
Charlie Chalk was such a hit with children that the UK family restaurant chain Brewers Fayre used to use Charlie as their mascot, and had a kids play area called 'The Charlie Chalk Fun Factory'.

  • This programme was nice for its time,

It was just like a continuation of Bertha really. It has the same type of nature to Bertha, although its nothing really like it because its set in a totally different surrounding. Therefore comparisons would be very difficult, or even impossible.

It's a shame to hear that two of the voice artists have died from cancer, their deaths were not made that public either. Are we just supposed to forget about it?

The theme tune was quite catchy and wacky too, quite bizarre.

Not much of an educational side, although anything said presented as "facts", were always true or not to misleading, probably not to teach children any wrong information.

I think children nowadays would be a lot less narrow-minded if they were brought up on programmes like this rather than the stuff they do get.moreless
