While on a hunt for a woman with no identity, Detective Charlie Jade is shot into a strange parallel universe.
  • This story doesn't really jump off the page, but is visually stunning...

    "Great"
Charlie Jade is about a detective who can see into another reality. Not all the time, and he doesn't know what it is. But there is a company that is trying to bridge that gap from his reality to the other two.

The story doesn't really take off all that quickly. There are bits and peices of it that are interesting, but I wasn't drawn into it all that much. It simply didn't develop a bad guy for the episode or a reason to like the main character all that well.

Visually, however, this is a very impressive show. The use of different colors and scenery works out so well when shooting the different universes, that, in itself, was enough to make me feel like watching a second episode would make good sense.moreless
  • well, three alternate realities, actually. three parallel universes, about to be locked in what looks like a class struggle for resources. very interesting...

charlie jade. great name. cliche on purpose, i hope.

charlie jade is a private detective in a slightly futuristic looking place called cape city. and he's tortured. about what, we're not yet sure. but he has visions. and he seems to be quite the loner. hardened by the street.

what charlie is going to have to battle, it looks like, (well, besides his own vices) is vexcor, the powerful, cruel, greedy corporation that seems to rule the world. and having exhausted the planet, it's looking for new ones to exhaust. clean slates. good thing vexcor has found parallel universes and has begun to move natural resources betwen them.

this first episode is quite well done because it leaves us with the sense that it's going to take the comfortable conventions of science fiction television and it's going to try to turn them on their heads. ambitious. i like that in a series. this is the reason, i think, that charlie jade is the typical bad boy protagonist in this first episode. it looks like he'll be the distant loner with a secret heart of gold. and he's already got the girl.

but things will obviously be a lot more complicated than your typical private eye kind of story.

this episode seems to be making way for tons of interesting parallels and questions that can be handled with these potential plot lines. three universes, some more privleged than others. some more ethical than others. who will come out on top and who will exploit and pollute who? sounds familiar...moreless
