I have to say that I was a little apprehensive about this eppisode. Robin Hood.? I was thinking it was going to be another goofy filler eppisode.

I was wrong. It was so wonderfully funny that at times I could not stop lauging. When Drake kicked \'prince john\'s\' door open and it flew back at him, I was just about on the floor.

The first thing I noticed was the boys in more then one sceen. Most of the time we see them only once and then they get sent off to magic school..

I do have to say that I was alittle put off that the girls seem to jump right into feeling sorry for themselves just because Drake kept commenting on it on them needing to forgive themselves how they have lost the will to love because they are afraid to love. This from a demon that probable does not or can not love. It was as if just because he brought it up made it come into there minds.

But over all I thought this was a cute eppisode and look forward to seeing more of Billy Zane.

Not that I want to cuse but the elders are really starting to **** me off. Sandra, one of the elders said to Leo \'there are those among us who have argued in your favor, who understand what we pushed you into doing.\' That in itself says that they hold some blame of things that have happened. But they seem to be ready to jump right into making Leo do penance for what they call his betrayal. Do they not themselves get some punshisment?

Like the demons that come and go I feel the same about Sheridan. I am glad that her coma was \'fixed\'. Did Kyle go back and bring her out of it or was she brought out of it because of his death.? Mostly I feel like her character is just pointless. Some outside person come into \'expose\' the sisters. She will be gone soon, so I do not invest that much time in her.

    My Bits an Pieces....

Any one notice baby Chris had one of Pipers fingers in his mouth. thought that was so cute.

    The school had evening classes.

Did Mrs. Donovan hand shackels looked a little big, like she could have just sliped her hand right out of them?

I thought the best line of the night was from Drake asking Pheobe If she had forgotten what it was to good for those who can not do it for themselves. It reminded me of a line from a poem from Def Jam poet. \" My day is dark so yours can have light\".

We all know where Carpe Demon comes from? Its a play on Carpe Deim. Latin for \'seize the day\'. So this would be seize the demon..

  • Carpe Demon

    9.0
Carpe Demon was a superb and very entertaining episode of Charmed. I really enjoyed watching because the story was intriguing and fun. There was a lot of character development, humor, and magical action. It was interesting to watch an Ex Demon apply to teach at the magic school and to see how his story intertwined with the Charmed Ones. It was great watching him and Paige interact. This story was a fun spin on the Robin Hood myth. It was interesting to see the return of Inspector Sheridan and watch her suspicions grow. I like how every thing played out. I look forward to watching what happens next!!!!!!!!!moreless
  • Robin Hood and His Merry Witches

    4.0
Carpe Demon-When Paige tries to hire a new professor for the Magic School, one of the candidates, Drake, turns out to be an ex-demon who made a deal with a sorcerer to become human. Meanwhile, Leo faces the Elders.

.....And with that, we're back to classic Charmed Horrible writing, silly costumes, cheesy acting and embarrassing plots Well, it not all bad, it's nice to see Billy Zane on the series, he's pretty much the biggest star to ever grace the series(I mean he was in that Titanic movie?) You can tell Billy is a gifted actor, he immediately brings a whole new energy to not only Drake but to every scene he's in, which is refreshing considering our main cast seems a bit oo comfortable in their roles at this point and sometimes feel like their sleeping through their performances. While Drake is essentially a great character, it's a same his first episode is so bad Drake's backstory is pretty good, a former demon turned human who wants to become a teacher to educate the next generation of magic. It's a shame all the Robin Hood non-sense is thrown in. All the scenes of Drake running around, threatening people with his arrows and preaching about thievery and what not. Not to mention, when would a group of people support some nut job in a Robin Hood costume ? I know this is a fantasy show, but even I found that hard to believe. Also, I hate that Sheridan is back in the picture, she's basically like all the other cops who were suspicious about the sisters in the past and you know she'll either disappear without a trace (again) or end up deadThe Sorcerer is the same old run of the mill villain of the week who really poses no major threat, especially after he gains Drake's powers. You'd think with those new powers he would be a greater threat, but the sisters vanquish him with no problem like every other lame demon as of late. So it seems Drake only has two more weeks to live, part of his deal with the Sorcerer. Too bad the rest of Drake's appearances are kinda of a waste. All and All, 'Carpe Demon is just Charmed being it's usual gimmicky, childish self.moreless
  • LET'S DANCE

    9.0
    Let's dance

After a rare run of serious episodes, a dose of humour was just what we needed on this show. Happily, with a combination of decent acting and a quality script, that's exactly what we get.

Guest star, Billy Zane, really shines as ex-demon Drake. His character is about as undemonlike as it's possible to be and I bonded with him straightaway. He is clearly relishing his time as a human and, thanks to Billy, this comes across strongly and convincingly. Some nifty footwork in that dance scene too I thought.

The stuff with Robin Hood is daft to say the least but somehow it works. In fact, as historic character episodes go, this is probably the best of the bunch. A lot of this has to do with Billy's performance but the writing also helps - having him interact with muggles on the street keeps it that little bit less far fetched.

The demon plot is pretty weak. Basically, the sorcerer who made Drake human kidnaps Miss Donovan and the Charmed Ones blow him up. That said, it's nice to hear a power of three spell for once. I was beginning to forget what this show was about. Having the teacher learn to astral project was also a good move. It's been a while since we've seen this and it sets up an imaginative vanquish.

Not much Leo this week (booo!), no Zankou and just the usual fleeting appearance by Darryl. Oh, and I see Agent Sheridan is back. Do I detect yet another exposure storyline? Surely not.

    Score: 9.1moreless
  • This episode have some points...Well written, well job in the scenes and a strange feeling. Anyway I thing we can save the epidode because...

    8.5
We have a great written story. If you hear the dialogues you can notice the good they are.

In the "magic world" history we have a sorcerer that wants powers... this M.O is not very original but makes the thing "I gave my powers to humanity" is kinda original. The effects... OH GOD!!! Xd they've film a scene blowing up a window and trowing a guy out of it!! I think that gives a lots of points to this episode!!! We don't see that fantastic stunt scenes everyday!

Also we have really funny moments in the episode (an exemple, one of my favorytes, is when Piper and Paige gets turn into the robin hood story... The arc fells into Piper and she looks so strange! I love her when she does so great job.

Despite the robin hood story, that I think is a little silly (I could have been a robin hood not funnier and more serious!), the chapter is great.I love so much the camera work!!! the scenes were fantastic!!!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (18)

    • TRIVIA: Leo does not orb in this episode.

    • When Drake transforms the Charmed Ones into Robin Hood outfits, you can clearly see a green tint around them indicating the use of green screen. Green light also bounces off Piper onto Paige.

    • The fletchings (feathers) on an arrow come in threes and to increase accuracy when firing a right-handed bow as "Robin Hood" does, two fletchings should point angled to the right, upwards and downwards respectively, and the third directly to the left. At several points in the episode, Robin draws his bow with the fletchings oriented incorrectly (one fletching to the right, two to the left). As an expert archer, Robin Hood should know better.

    • When Ms. Donovan is doing astral projection at magic school in front of Paige you can see that her real body is awake before her astral one is gone. Her real body only could be awake after the astral one is gone.

    • When Drake and Paige are looking at the Book of Shadows the Mercury Demons' page suddenly changes. First we can see that they have found the page but a second later we see a different shot where the page in the book is not about the Mercury Demons anymore.

    • At the beginning, when Billy Zane (Drake) appears and later when he is with Paige looking at the Book of Shadows, he has a slicked back hairstyle with one curl shaped like a C over his right eye. During the course of both scenes it appears, disappears and changes shape in different shots.

    • TRIVIA: As of this episode, all four of the sisters have been on a motorcycle. Prue in the season 3 episode "Just Harried", Paige in the season 4 episode "Size Matters", Piper in the season 6 episode "Valhalley of the Dolls (2)", and Phoebe in this episode.

    • TRIVIA: This was the first episode to show Rose McGowan's new haircut - she cut her bangs.

    • TRIVIA: Both Drake and Ms. Donovan quote from the classic William Shakespeare play "Macbeth", and Drake later quotes from Edmond Rostand's "Cyrano de Bergerac".

    • When Ms. Donovan astral projects to the Manor from the demons' hide-out, her cloak is over her right side. Then when the camera switches, it's now over both sides.

    • How did the cops get to the bank so quick? They were outside in less than a minute - unless someone called when they first went into the bank?

    • TRIVIA: This episode marks the first appearance of Billy Zane as Drake. Zane is best known for his roles in the movies "Dead Calm", "The Phantom", "Titanic" and "Tombstone".

    • When Drake snapped his fingers to set the teacher free she just slipped her hands out.

    • When Piper was changing baby Chris and talking to Phoebe, she walked across the kitchen, fully changed his diaper and was sitting at the kitchen table in less than ten seconds.

    • What sane officer would leave an armored truck, with loads of cash open with multiple people standing right by the truck? They should have had extra protection, especially when dropping off money to a bank, or other financial establishment.

    • When Piper put baby Chris down on the changing table to change his diaper, he's wearing a hat but when she picks him up, he doesn't have one on. However when she turns around, baby Chris is wearing a hat again.

    • Why is Phoebe surprised that Drake knows she was married to a demon? She married the source of all evil and was queen of the underworld, it doesn't get more famous than that down there.

    • Did anyone else notice how HUGE the chains were on the teacher's wrists? She had to hold onto them to keep her hands IN. She could've easily pulled her hands out.

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Darryl (on phone with Phoebe): Your friend Brody came to visit me last night...didn't you say he died?

    • Leo: Since when do you staple decorations? Don't you want everything to be perfect?
Piper: What's the point? It's all gonna be torn down tomorrow anyway.
Leo: Well, the point is – is not worry about what's gonna happen tomorrow. The point is to stop and enjoy Valentine's Day.
Piper: Well, some people can't forget. Some people would rather see the rips and the flaws, so that they're not totally devastated when they're all torn down suddenly tomorrow.
Leo: We're not talking about decorations anymore, are we?

    • Norman: What exactly do you want from me? Did my ex-wife send you?
Drake (as Robin Hood, pointing his arrow at him): I'm here to rob you.
Norman (gives him a funny look): Of course.

    • Ms. Donovan: You ride in here, nearly kill us, and now you want to teach here?
Drake: Well, if I wanted to teach parallel parking, you might have a point, but I'm here for the literature post.

    • Drake: You know, there's only one man I know that can solve all of these problems...
(Drake changes them into characters from Robin Hood)
Drake: Oh come on, Robin Hood!
Paige: Oh you. I'm going to hire you just so I can fire you.
Piper: Do we look merry to you?
Drake: Well, perhaps you should see the world as Robin Hood would have. He believed in himself. He also loved the thrill of the fight.

    • (Drake is dressed as Cyrano de Bergerac)
Phoebe (to Paige): Look, I don't know why Cyrano is here, but he should probably leave because we have our own problems.
Drake (in a French accent): But my dear Roxanne, feel thou my soul, here... (he starts to gesture toward his crotch, then thinks better of it and clutches his heart)
Phoebe: You know, then again, I don't have a date for Valentine's Day and he is kind of hot.
Paige: He's hot until you figure out how many people he's killed.

    • Drake: Most of the world's greatest lovers were brought together during a time of epic conflict. Admittedly, most of them were doomed...

    • Paige: Have you guys seen the news?
Piper: No. Weren't you at Magic School?
      Paige: Yeah...we have satellite.

    • Piper: Do I really need this today? Or ever?

    • Phoebe: We can't just let him go out there. Especially not with Sheridan back.
      Piper: Sheridan's back?
Phoebe: Did I forget to mention that?

    • Ms. Donovan (to Paige): What are you waiting for? Vanquish him!
Drake: Vanqu—Lady, vanquish? Look, I just want a chance to make up for my demon days. If you don't believe me, then research me. Look into my history. I've got...almost nothing to hide.

    • Phoebe and Drake draw in for a kiss. The love music is heard in the background until screeching to a stop.
Piper: Get your paws, off of her!
Phoebe and Drake spin around backing away to find Paige with Piper.
      Drake: So much for romance.
Phoebe: Piper! Ha ha! We were just having fun. You know... fun.
Piper: With the demon? Phoebe, how many times have I told you not to play dress-up with the demons?

    • Drake: I thought you had lots of experience with demons who were human. You married one didn't you?
Phoebe: Yes and how did you know that?
      Drake: Gossip.

    • Paige (about Drake): He's very dramatic.
      Phoebe: I see that...

    • Drake (describing the sisters): Paige needs to trust her instinct and believe in herself again. Phoebe, you need to remember what it feels like to do good, to love. And you honey (turning to Piper), you're just plain mean.
Piper: Ha, ha! You'd better watch it.

    • Paige: You helped Piper see love again. Thank you.
Drake (looking at Phoebe): I'm not done yet.
      Phoebe blushes and giggles.
Paige: Okay, awkward moment for me there.

    • Paige (about the Book of Shadows): You touched it.
Drake: Oh my God, I did. So that must mean I'm good!

    • Drake: So do you like Gene Kelly movies?
      Phoebe: Love them, why?

  • NOTES (2)

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Drake: That's gonna leave a mark.

This is the second episode of Charmed in a row with a quote from the movie Spaceballs in it. This line (actually an ad-lib) was said by Barf when he tried to stand up from his seat without undoing the seatbelt.

    • Drake: It is a poor player, who struts and frets...

He quoting a soliloquy, or monologue, from the classic play "Macbeth" that Ms. Donovan attempts to finish, but is interrupted by Drake. See also Act V, Scene V of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth".

    • Title: Carpe Demon

Reference to the saying "carpe diem" which is Latin for "seize the day".

    • Drake: Do you like Gene Kelly movies?

The specific Gene Kelly movie that Drake is referring to is "An American in Paris", where Kelly's American artist meets and falls in love with a French shop girl played by Leslie Caron. The dance that Drake and Phoebe do in front of the stairs is a recreation of Kelly and Caron's dance next to the Seine - right down to the costumes.
