  • Crimes and Witch-Demeanors

    8.0
Crimes and Witch-Demeanors was a great episode of Charmed and I enjoyed watching though there were some flaws to it. This was basically a mini recap episode exploiting past events to manipulate a current outcome. It was interesting to see the Tribunal but I wasn't very impressed. I don't like when tv shows or movies introduce all powerful beings who don't really do much or use their powers, though I understands that that very fact is sometimes the point. Still I would like to see more magic! Barbas and Gideon had a very interesting conversation at the end. I look forward to watching what happens next!!!!!moreless
  • PLEASE.....

    3.5
Didn't like this episode to much...

1st: The Elders-half representatives of the Tribunal are to naive to be anyone's Judge, jury and executioner...Elders aren't stupid...how could they not see what was going on...

3rd: The Cleaners actions is what was suppose to be in question over the current situation, the not the sisters....The Sisters trial would have been separate issue....

4th: The Cleaner intervention for this episode is rather weak...If they were truly neutral in nature, instead of putting one man on the chopping block, especially since this action would adversely affect the Sisters, the cleaners should have erased Sheridan's memory and the tape, especially since only one person was witness to the Sisters use of magic...TALK ABOUT OVERBOARD....moreless
  • These Writers Should Be On Trial Instead!!

    4.0
Crimes and Witch-Dameanors-When Phoebe and Paige are caught on tape using their powers, the Cleaners, cover up the situation by implicating Darryl as a murderer. When the sisters try to help, they end up on trial instead. Meanwhile, Leo and Chris work together to help free the sisters and Darryl.

Why, WHy, Why, Why, WHY!? Like last season's ill-concieved "Cat House" wasn't enough, we get yet another meaningless clip show that progesses nothing this seasons. Well, it "kinda" does but those developments don't really mean anything in the long run. Not to mention, the whole plot with the Phantasms, Darryl in jeopardy, etc. means anything either, considering this is an exucse for the writers to go easy on the budget and tease fans with old footage from the series with NO PRUE! Yes, I know about Shannon's "image concealed" contract, but seriously, the clips were random and made no sense. Why not show clips of the Charmed Ones vanquishing some of the worst demons they've ever face or show how much good they've done over the years. But no, we get a random clip of Cole killing thugs in a bar and other scenes that contribute nothing to the plot, well, there really isn't one in the first place.

To make matters worse, Mr. Zero personality returns aka Barabas. Seriously, kill this guy already! Did Billy Drago make some special deal with the writerscauseBarbas is the only villain who has popped up more than threes times on this series who wasn't a regular! It's hard to believe he's so powerful that he can escape death or being banished or whatever everytime the sisters get rid of him. What makes him stronger than any demons the sisters have faced so far? He's certainly not better than Belthazar, the Source, Shax, Eames etc. Why not bring one of those demons back, why recycle the same, non-threatening character that is Barbas! I'm just sick of Billy Drago's over the top southern preacher mannerisms and line delievery. Anyway, Barbas talks out his a$$ the whole time about the sisters not being able to handle their powers, they been seduced by evil too many times, blah, blah, blah! Which ends up getting Phoebe's active powers taken away from her. I have mixed feelings on this, on the one hand Phoebe barely uses her active powers anymore to begin with so nothing much has changed there, yet it sucks considering Phoebe's powers have always been the weaker of the trio. With Empathy, she finally got a huge power boosts, able to channel anyone else's power through their emotions. Also, the reason for the writers writing this plot development is both non-sensical and waste of time. Since Phoebe's powers are the weakest, they are probably the easiest to do SFX wise, yet the writers have Phoebe lose her powers because of budget constraints. Since when are premontions (just a playback of a short scene in a dream-like tint), levitation (Alyssa held up by a piece of string!) and especially empathy (an annoying jingle!) anymore expensive to make than Piper's freezing/explosions or Paige's telekinetic orbing/orbing?! O_0 Talk about BS! It's bad enough Phoebe's personality has taken a hit by the bad writing, now she has no active powers!? *Forehead slap*

Anyway, we are also introduced to Inspector Sheridan here, who will become an even bigger annoyance the next following episodes and season. as for this episode, "Crimes and Witch-Dameanors" is just another poorly done clip show with little plot to show for it.moreless
  • Yawn! New demons please!

    6.1
This episode is a perfect example of why I think a lot of people are loosing interest in Charmed. Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of shows have 'flashback episodes,' for some reason or the other whether it is because the actors want an easy couple of weeks of filming or to help cut down on production costs, I don't know but I just don't think it works for Charmed.

If I wanted to watch past episodes, I would put on the videos or watch repeats but I can't help but feel disappointed after a week of excitedly waiting for a brand spanking new Charmed episode only to be fogged off with this!

The worst thing about this episode, however, was the appearance of Barbas . . .again. Am I the only one who is seriously bored of this demon? I just can't grasp the concept that he is one of the most powerful demons out there. I think the producers are over-estimating his popularity to have brought him back so many times.

To be honest it wasn't all bad, the Chris/Leo interaction was nicely done, highlighting their tense relationship and Leo's eagerness for them to work things out.

Also it showed how that the sisters knew what mattered as they are willing to give up everything to save Daryll's life.

I just hope that episodes like this are few and far between because Charmed is such an inventive show that until recently has always been original and fresh so it would be a shame to waste time slots with filler episdoes like this.moreless
  • One of the best

    9.7
I loved this episode mainly because it showed that the sisters were unselfish enough to give up their powers to save Daryl. It was a great concept to have Pheobe get stripped of her active powers so she is forced to rely on her human powers to solve cases and fight demons. It shows Pheobe gaining stregnth and self relience. When they showed Dryl close to being exicuted it was scary and heart pounding. It made you believe that it may actually happen. Of course watching it in reruns I knew Daryl didn't die. But if I had been watching from the first I would have thought it might happen. Great episode.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (20)

    • TRIVIA: This is the first appearance of Inspector Sheridan, who would become the sisters' main nemesis during the remainder of this season as well as the following season.

    • TRIVIA: Piper doesn't use her powers in this episode.

    • When the Cleaners freeze the scene, and Paige and Phoebe turn around, you can tell they're in front of a green screen because parts of Phoebe's arm disappears and reappears for a quick sec.

    • Why does Darryl remember everything? Why didn't the Cleaners make him not remember? They altered reality as if nothing happened and the people involved like his wife and Inspector Sheridan were acting as if nothing happened except for him. In that case, he wouldn't turn his back on the sisters and stop helping them.

    • How come Leo, Chris and the sisters were sure that Inspector Sheridan was STILL possessed by the Phantasm? After all, the Phantasm's purpose was to make Sheridan expose the sisters, and Barbas may have dispossessed her at any time. And by the way, why didn't he do that or thought about it because if he went all this far to save himself, something small like that wouldn't slip his mind.

    • Leo and Chris orb in with Inspector Sheridan to the Tribunal to prove there's a phantasm inside of her but they're not shown leaving later.

    • Phoebe's active powers, including premonition, are taken away in this episode, but since when is premonition an active power? It was stated several times in the first three seasons that premonition is a passive power, so why is it all of a sudden an active power?
Technically, premonitions should be considered an active power, because in the beginning of this episode, Phoebe reveals that she has been deliberately calling premonitions; this misuse of power is what led to the trial and is why she lost her powers.

    • When Phoebe and Paige see Barbas, Paige says "Didn't we vanquish you?" to him. Yet, Paige, Piper, or Phoebe did not vanquish Barbas, Cole did by himself in the season 5 episode "Sympathy for the Demon".

    • TRIVIA: This episode is the beginning of Darryl's refusal to aid the sisters any longer.

    • TRIVIA: This episode featured clips from past episodes in order to show the sisters' past mistakes.

    • TRIVIA: This episode features the Magic Tribunal, that consists of two demons and two elders, who created the Cleaners to prevent any magical exposure.

    • TRIVIA: Phoebe has now lost her active powers of premonition, levitation & empath but she can still cast spells & make potions. She will only get them back if she and her sisters are more careful in the future with magic, meaning not to expose it anymore.

    • In the Tribunal near the end when Paige orbs herself, Piper and Phoebe out, she goes to grab Phoebe and Piper but before she makes contact Piper and Phoebe turn to orbs.

    • Why did the Cleaners find it necessary to send Darryl to death row? Why not just alter the video to make it appear as if the suspect shot, then Darryl fired in self defense?

    • When Darryl is first arrested and the sisters visit him, his lawyer arrives and the policeman who let the guy in just stands there and listens in on their privileged lawyer-client conversation.

    • Gideon's initial invocation to the Tribunal, translated, basically means, "I say, behold this hour, for my wife will kill me."

    • They don't allow wives in a death-row cell on the night of the prisoner's execution (or most other times), but there Sheila is when Darryl's ready to be killed.

    • So the Cleaners go to all this effort to cover up magic use, and get Darryl almost killed, and at the end one of them teleports out of the middle of the police station.

    • During the exchange about Piper not being present at the Tribunal, the word "abstentia" is used - which should be pronounced "absentia".

    • Leo told Chris that the Tribunal wouldn't acknowledge anything a demon had to say, but they're being persecuted by a demon, and Leo had already said that the tribunal is made up of elders and demons.

  • QUOTES (13)

    • Leo: Okay, you know that phantasm you vanquished? Apparently Barbas sent it so you'd follow it.
Chris: And apparently he gets a get-out-of-hell-free card, too, if he wins the case.

    • Phoebe (to the Tribunal): You have got to be kiddin' me right? I mean you can't really be doing this!
      Gideon: Phoebe, they have already.

    • Cleaner 1: What do you think you're doing now?
Phoebe: Well, we didn't know how else to call for you. Figured you weren't listed in the yellow pages.

    • Phoebe: How's Piper? Have you seen her?
Chris: She's good. Uh, big! You know, I keep thinking how weird it's gonna be to actually see myself being born.

    • Chris: I think I have a new theory on who might be trying to turn Wyatt evil.
Paige: Oh, a new theory. What's that? Like the third one this week?
Chris: What're you keeping score now?
Phoebe: She's just grumpy 'cause she hasn't had her coffee yet.
Paige: I am not grumpy. (Phoebe gives her a look) Ok, fine, maybe a little bit. But you have to admit you've had a lot of different theories lately, and none of them have panned out.
Chris: That's why they call them "theories".
Paige: Do we even get along in the future?

    • Barbas: I'm surrounded by idiots!

    • Piper: If Darryl dies, that's it we're done. We quit.
Barbas: You know, that would solve all of our future exposure problems now wouldn't it?

    • Paige: Didn't we vanquish you?
Barbas: To the fires of Hell.

    • Elder: What do you have to say for yourself Barbas?
Barbas: I'm a demon. What do you expect?

    • Barbas (after Leo orbs out): Was I boring him?

    • Barbas: Objection! You can't bring a mortal down here. It's completely outrageous!
Leo: Sit down and shut up.

    • Paige: There's four of them. How do they break a tie?
      Leo: You don't wanna know.

    • Phoebe (talking about Barbas): Objection! Why should we care what he thinks?
      Gideon: Phoebe...
      Tribunal Demon: I care.
Phoebe: Yeah, well, of course you care. You're a demon.
      Tribunal Elder: I care too.
      Phoebe: Oh...well then never mind.
