In some ways this show keeps reminding me of buffy the vampire slayer, i dunno why but it just does. Spike and Cole keep reminding me of each other with the storylines in series 3 of charmed, i currently own on region 1 dvd, still need to watch it btw.

Great entertainment from Piper, i love her i think she is the best out of the current 3. Its a shame they couldnt do 10 years, anyone know why this is the last season?.

Not only in storylines but the show does have similar traits thematically too.

There are some similarities between Charmed and Buffy but I think they're, most of the time, over analyzed. The only ones I can think of is Cole seeking redemption (similar to Angel's redemption search) and the fact that both shows feature empowered women who fight evil. They are completely different shows, one being entirely well written with emotional characters which immediately connect with the audience, strong storylines, powerful metaphors, all-round amazing acting, quick-witted dialogue and some emotional depth and the other, well... you catch my drift.

The supernatural stuff are the most striking similarity, and maybe sometimes the feeling of the shows. But seriuosly, when it comes to episode, characters and story-lines, Buffy is miles ahead of Charmed. Buffy was tv of the highest quality, while Charmed... well, let's just say that Charmed not always is.

I don't think they're alike at all, the supernatural stuff etc but they're different... But I don't like Buffy, I watched some episodes but I never really liked the storyline.

I agree that the supernatural stuff is similar, but they are totally different shows. One thing i hated about Buffy is that she kept dying and coming back, that was totally ridiculous

Seriously. Because that didn't happen many times on Buffy, and when it did happen, it was good, and well explained. In Charmed, a sister's death is standard every season, and you're not even shocked.

Charmed and Buffy each had their virtues.

    Some unique to them,some not.

Buffy appeared to have fewer times when it was unable to find or adhere to its vision.

It seemed to gain strength as it added texture to its characters and its setting.

Aspects that felt insignificant or detrimental often proved pivotal to the whole story in the end.

It began with more fluff than edge and drove its characters through a morass of angst and confusion before they emerged more powerful and more whole for their experiences.

Charmed started out edgy with protagonists who needed to grow but were already solid, capable people.

Where Buffy took empty and untried children and turned them into champions,Charmed took young adults who could have been realistically expected to excel in their lives (and improve with added time and opportunities) and stripped those persons of every shred of certainty.

The Scoobies lived in a world that was born of chaos and they formed an oasis of hope and rationality.

The Halliwells lived in a rather pleasant, colorful, sane world that was lost to them when they had their gifts and responsibilities forced upon them.

They had no eye of the storm.

Instead, they occupied a warzone surrounded by an apparent peace they were obliged to preserve.

Charmed insisted on keeping its characters in flux and hungry.

The sisters had to reconstruct themselves with dubious raw materials and little notion how to read the instructions.

To the degree that Charmed kept the chaos but lost the sense of ultimate success,it failed.

Every time it got tooo cutesy or mawkish or derivative,it betrayed its characters and its origins.

But each time it showed a 'normal',confused, beleaguered girl pick herself up and insist on being a full human being as well as a heroine,it soared.

Each time it had these women accept the tasks at hand and never give up until they found their solution,it succeeded.

Every moment they restored their homes and their spirits, knowing they would be smashed because that was the cost of doing the right thing, the series earned its keep.

Charmed has garnered a lot of ridicule because it seemed to have lost too much control to outside forces and lacked the clout to protect itself from self-parody.

Charmed has not been reviled-or defended because it wasn't as good as other supernatural,action-adventure or female-centric programs.

It earned the reactions it has because it was a fundamentally truthful and creative premise with good creative artists who could not always execute a complete and undistorted version of what Charmed was meant to be.

I can't think of anything bad about Buffy, always well written and every character fittet perfectly in each other.

one minus was the gross Spuffy porn, but i'm probably alone in that.

on Charmed, it's hard for me to come up with a good episode. Most seasons have 2 or 3 memorable ones but that's not enough out of 22.
most of season 4 rocked, but that's mostly all.

kept dying? twice. both were perfectly well explained.
I find it hard to believe that they get all sad when a sister dies because she's alive the next scene anyway.

so for the people who like Buffy more than charmed, would buffy still be your favourite if Charmed finished at season 4 ?

Maybe I'm misinterpreting the question, but why wouldn't the Buffy fans still like Buffy after Charmed ended in S4? I liked Buffy way before Charmed. I started watching Charmed after Buffy was cancelled; which was around the time TNT aired the episode Charmed Again Pt. 1. I still don't get the point of your question, though..
