Prudence 'Prue' Halliwell
Inspector Andy Trudeau
Penny 'Grams' Halliwell
TRIVIA: In this episode Phoebe gets to use telekinesis to shut the door to the manor. This is the only time in the series that Phoebe gets this particular honor. Though Prue started this Charmed tradition, Chris does it in "Oh My Goddess" to close season 5, and he does it again in the last episode of season 6- "Its a Bad, Bad, Bad World". Finally, the entire series ends with Piper's granddaughter getting the honor at the end of "Forever Charmed".
TRIVIA: The spell used to banish the Woogyman or the Shadow as it is later called is:
I am light
I am one too strong to fight
Return to dark where Shadows dwell
You can not have this Halliwell.
So go away and leave my sight,
and take with you
this endless night.
TRIVIA: This is Jennifer Rhodes' first appearance as Grams. She will go on to appear in a total of 15 episodes, several of which were credited cameos via flashback, in the show's eight year run. She is also the only recurring character to appear in every season of the show.
TRIVIA: After she was five years old, Phoebe didn't set foot in the basement for 18 years until this episode.
TRIVIA: In this episode, it's stated that Phoebe was born in the house.
TRIVIA: Featured music in this episode -
-Zavelow House by Owsley
TRIVIA: This is the second time one of the sisters has evil inhabiting them. The first time was when Piper was infected by the Wendigo and this time it's Phoebe with the Woogy.
Although it's a nice point that Phoebe is the first one to write in the Book of Shadows, it seems very strange, given that the legend of the 'Woogeyman' is real that Grams would only have made up a story years ago and not recorded the vanquishing spell in the Book. The point of the Book is surely to warn all future witches about whatever demons previous witches have known about. It's especially odd, as this is a demon specifically in/under/fixated on the house they all live in!
In the episode "The Fourth Sister", when Piper uses her power against a witch possessed by a demon, the demon freezes but the witch does not. In this episode, however, both Phoebe and the demon freeze when Piper uses her power in the same way.
When Piper and Prue are drawing on the map they use metal, fire, earth, water, and wood which are actually the taoist elements. The Wiccan elements are Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.
TRIVIA: The address for the Halliwell Manor is given as 1329 Prescott Street.
TRIVIA: Shannen Doherty and Jennifer Rhodes both worked together in the 1989 black comedy film, Heathers.
When the "gas-man" is shown the way to the basement he opens the door, and first thing he does is switch on the light. If there is a real gas leak down there even the smallest spark like switching on a light can ignite everything, a real "gas-man" would know that.
After dinner, when Prue and Piper can't get back into the house, Prue is wearing a black band around her neck. The next morning she is wearing a gold chain and when the camera shot changes she is wearing the black band again.
TRIVIA: This is the first episode where the sisters add to the Book of Shadows, and it's Phoebe who gets this honor.
When Andy leaves the manor there is a wall behind him by the door but when Prue and Piper sneak in there, there is no wall. In past episodes there has been no wall there, just a straight hall.
When Prue and Piper are outside the manor and Prue tries to get back in and is thrown onto the lawn, we see the inside of the house, as Phoebe is standing in the doorway. If you look behind Phoebe, you can see a tall lamp at the foot of the stairs. This is not in the manor, but as fans will know is there in the actual house used for filming.
After Phoebe vanquishes the Woogy, the whole house magically cleans itself, but at the end Piper, Phoebe, and Prue are cleaning it.
When Prue's dinner guests are getting ready to leave, everybody is in the area between the the dining room and the living room. The camera's point of view at one point during the exchange shows the front door. A man is shown opening the door and another person walking out the door, but the only man in the house is ten feet away talking with the Charmed Ones.
Piper: Who's Chanda Lier?
Phoebe: Oh, they're for me. I ordered some CDs.
Piper: Using a fake name to score some free CDs. Isn't that a little dishonest?
Prue: Is Phoebe's dark side rearing it's ugly head?
Phoebe: I do not have a dark side, thank you very much. And just because I protect the innocent, doesn't mean I have to be innocent all the time.
Piper: Ooh, I don't know. Still believing in the Woogyman is pretty innocent. It's so cute too.
Prue: Yeah, well, you didn't think it was so cute when we were all sharing a room which kept you up all night.
Phoebe: It was scary and it was real.
(The gas man walks out of the basement.)
Piper: So? What's the verdict?
Gas man: Bad.
Prue: Bad as in "destroy my entire dinner party" or bad as in "you can fix quickly, it'll just cost more than my entire education".
Gas man: By tonight, there will be no more problems.
(He walks back in the basement.)
Gas man: What the... ?
Woogyman: You have freed me. And now you'll help take back the house.
(The Woogyman enters his body and the gas man becomes evil.)
Prue: Grams must have thought that this evil might come back. And that's why she told us the story.
Piper: How do we remember the words? I never even believed in the Woogyman.
Prue: No, but Phoebe did. She knows the story by heart.
Piper: Something tells me she's not in the mood to share.
Prue (after Piper is prevented from leaving the house): Are you ok?
Piper: No, I'm not! Neither are you! We're locked in this house, and our sister is trying to kill us.
Piper: Somebody just kill me now and spare me the agony of cleanup.
Phoebe: Ask and you shall receive...
Prue: Our powers are supposed to progress, not grow at random.
(Phoebe doesn't let them back into the house)
Phoebe: Are you looking for me?
Prue: Why are you doing this?
Phoebe: Because he asked me to.
Piper: Who asked you to?
(Phoebe doesn't say anything)
Prue: Okay, that is it. We need to-
(Prue is thrown back by the electricity from the doorway)
Piper: Oh, Prue. Prue. Are you okay? (to Phoebe) Phoebe, what's wrong with you?! Why won't you let us in?
Phoebe: No, you can't. You shouldn't. (nastily) You don't live here anymore! (demonic voice) He does!
(Phoebe closes the door, leaving Prue and Piper outside)
Piper: Don't worry, I can handle it all by myself. It's me, the culinary pachyderm!
Piper: You're the only Halliwell that actually likes earthquakes.
Prue: I don't like them, but I don't go running through the house naked screaming "run for your life" either.
Phoebe: Okay. That is such an exaggeration. I was wearing slippers.
Phoebe: Earthquakes give me the jeebies.
Prue: Would that be the Phoebe Jeebies?
