  • Ah it's ok.

So straight off Paige annoyed me. Phoebe doesn't NEED to tell Jason, she can tell him when she wants to and when she's ready and honestly, if this was me I'd rather be told in private so I don't feel pressured to react a certain way because others are around.

This whole karma thing was annoying. I understand karma and think it's an interesting concept but yeah they weren't doing it well. But it was kinda sucky how Jason did find out but they were silly for not thinking Jason might leave his seat.

"every time I hit one more show up" so lets go out there and hit them. And with Phoebe's power, she can tap into their powers but how she controlled the fire balls is kind of annoying, nobody around was telekinetic as far as we're aware.

And Karma doesn't work that way. If I do something wrong then yes I'd get something bad. But just because YOU do something doesn't mean it'll happen to me, and if you do something and die I don't just 'inherit' your karma.

Paige doesn't want to go back to help, Paige is obsessed with Richard and can't trust him, "damn I can't leave him alone" that's a bit psychotic. But when Phoebe says "she can't" to the power of three Paige gives her a bad look.

I completely understood why Jason left Phoebe. He was very much put on the spot and felt lied to and then he feels like his girlfriend/ex is trying to destroy him.. But I also felt for Phoebe, because she was under a spell and it wasn't actually her doing this, but it's kind of hard to explain that to people (not that this show likes to explain things properly to create drama).

Paige judging Richard for using one spell, and not even a bad spell, even though she uses magic for personal gain constantly! But she's acting like Piper last episode with Chris. A potion to help Phoebe might you know be important. She's actually being quite unfair to him. If he wants to do magic that's for him to decide not you. You can ask but not demand and expect.

Chris is their whitelighter but still they always call for Leo and he's always just available instantly. Yeaah because the breakup and him not being around was totally necessary. The show couldn't even get rid of him for half a season.

Paige was doing to Richard what she did to Cole. That no matter what he does with his powers he's bad. Richard gives a potion, hardly anything wrong with that! He saved her, no need to look so annoyed. Yes he looked evil at the end going into the potion room but next episode until he becomes bad all he does is good things with his magic and she thinks 'evil' automatically.moreless
  • Used Karma

Used Karma was a perfect and very entertaining episode of Charmed. I really enjoyed watching because there was a lot of character and plot development with all of the characters relationships. It was great to see Piper face her fear of Wyatt's future as well as for Paige to take a position of reservation as Phoebe was out of control under the influence of a Karma from some one else. I liked the way everything played out and certainly look forward to watching the next episode!!!!!!!!!moreless
  • Mata Horny

Used Karma-Jason breaks up with Phoebe when he finally learns her and her sisters are really witches. Meanwhile, Richard attempts to free himself of his family's karma, and Piper and Paige try to vanquish a group of Swarm demons, the last on Chris' list of the most significant threats to Wyatt.

It's really sad what Phoebe character has become even in Season 6. I honestly, don't feel bad for her in this episode, I feel bad for Jason. No wonder he broke up with her in this episode, who wouldn't want to break up with their girlfriend when she turns into an embarrassing slutty mess in front of a crowd of people. Seriously, every time Phoebe gets possessed or put under a spell at this point, it's god awful. Her outfits are get skimpier and Alyssa Milano put in these horrible performances. It's like all that Phoebe is the writers at this point is boobs and a nce a$$. I mean how else do you explain Phoebe getting possessed by a French hooker!! Not only do I feel bad for Jason, but I felt bad for Eric Dane during those scenes where Phoebe was forcing herself on Jason. Apart of me thinks that Eric wanted out of his contract seeing as we never see Jason again and nothing between him and Phoebe are resolved. Who wouldn't? The guy just seemed so uninterested in the material and not wanting to be there.

Another uninterested actor is the boringBalthazar Getty who's Richard is as one note as ever. He's whole little "my Karma is bad" plot just stunk up the screen and gave way to the mess that was Phoebe and her whole transformation. I just don't see the interest in his arc about his powers being dangerous and I still don't see what Paige sees in him. The Swarm Demons were also about as one note as you can get. I'm starting to feellike the writers just made these demons just so we can watched Piper blow them uo...over...and over....and..over....and over...and over again. But on the plus side, at least we got to see Piper's freezing power more than once and for the first time since Season 4, the sisters say a Power of three spell to vanquish the demon. God, knows I'm sick of Piper just blowing up demons or the sisters using potions. It just doesn't feel like Charmed without the Power of 3 spells! Eh, all and all, "Used Karmed" used Phoebe in the worst possible way and is another stinker from Season 6!

  • Not my favorite episode!

Chris didnt appears in this episode again! In the ending of this episode, Paige broke up with Richard, because it is too much! Thougth, it is final appearance for Richard in this episode! Richard can't control magic. We found out that Richard's family are mostly dead, not all of them. They are dead because of magic!! Paige want to help Richard!! In the ending, Paige felt not comfortable to date him more. I never like him anyway, because I dislike him very much. Phoebe shouldnt tell her boyfriend that she is witch. I rather she keep it as secret!! Paige made Phoebe do it. Anyway, this episode is not good and bit boring.moreless
  • What goes around, comes around

Really enjoyed this one. The idea behind the story is interesting and the demon plot's not bad either.

There's some excellent character development for both Jason and Richard, with one being exposed to magic for the first time and the other breaking his 'no magic' rule to rid himself of his family's bad karma. It's not the first time the action has revolved around the side effects of a spell but having Richard as the culprit is a great twist so top marks to the writers for this. As in all the best episodes, the main plot involves the whole cast (with the notable exception of Chris - any ideas?).

The special effects are great this week, particularly the cleansing spell, and the direction is strong for the whole hour. Not sure the possessed Phoebe storyline was really the right choice but it was entertaining and Alyssa is so good at playing the bad girl. I loved the way she wrecked the party by turning the food into frogs and I completely loved that Piper froze the room. They should do more stuff like this!

The swarm demons are good value. Yes, the idea of 'kill the king, kill them all' isn't new but who cares? It's fun watching them all blow up and I enjoyed seeing Phoebe channel their powers against them. I wish she would do this more often.

Given that karma is such a big part of the wiccan faith I'm surprised they've not done this story before. The threefold return is a well known rule of witchcraft (i.e. if you do something bad it'll come back on you three times harder) yet it's taken Brad and his mates six years to realise this.

For me, Richard is the star of the show. That gleam in his eye as he goes into his potion cupboard is Cole all over again. Be afraid. Be very afraid.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (25)

    • Paige should have sensed the people in the room before she orbed in.

    • TRIVIA: Featured music in this episode - -Fallen by Sarah McLachlan

    • TRIVIA: This episode marks the fifth time Phoebe has been possessed. Prior to Mata Hari, she has been possessed by The Woogy, P. Russell, Lulu and Isis.

    • TRIVIA: In this episode, it's shown that Richard is left-handed.

    • If Phoebe was afraid to tell Jason that she was a witch, why didn't she just cast a truth spell on him like Prue and Paige did in previous seasons?

    • TRIVIA: This is one of only two episode in season 6 that Drew Fuller (Chris) did not appear in.

    • When Piper was blowing up the swarm demons, in the cave, she was wearing a silver ring on her right ring finger. It is still on her finger when she is sitting on the couch but when she stands up the ring is gone. Then when she is back in the cave, the ring is back on again.

    • Piper had the scar after being attacked by the demon but when they orbed back to the manor she doesn't have the scar. Yet in the next scene the scar is there when Leo heals her forehead.

    • At the beginning of the episode when Piper is being attacked by the demon, she has no scar on her forehead but when the demon throws the fireball and she falls to the floor, the scar is there before her head even touched the ground.

    • TRIVIA: This marks the ninth and final appearance of Eric Dane as Jason Dean.

    • TRIVIA: Phoebe becomes infected by bad karma, which Paige and Piper presume belongs to Mata Hari. Although technically Phoebe doesn't confirm this, she doesn't deny it, either.

    • When a possessed Phoebe is at Jason's meeting and she magically changes the food to frogs and pigeons, weren't all the reporters exposed to magic? If so, why didn't the cleaners come and erase their memories?

    • In the scene right before the press conference, where Phoebe/Mata Hari tries to entice Jason with her slinky outfit and scarves, she pulls the scarf off her neck, and then Jason walks away from her. When we see her from the front, the scarf is clearly not on her neck, but when we see her from the back, the scarf is miraculously back on her neck, and then again off her neck when we see her from the front again.

    • In regards to Jason and Phoebe supposed 15-month long relationship. In The Legend of Sleepy Halliwell Piper clearly mentions that Wyatt isn't even a year old, and Jason has arrived at the newspaper just as Phoebe was bragging about Wyatt's first baby pictures. So it proves that the "whole 15 month long thing" was clearly off!

    • When the girls orb back into the manor after attempting to defeat the swarm demons, Piper's cut on her head is missing, but just after the opening credits Leo heals her cut.

    • When Richard casts the karma spell, the outside of the Haliwells' attic window is shown - they live in a residential area, yet a city skyline is visible.

    • TRIVIA: This is the fourth consecutive episode that Holly Marie Combs (Piper) is wearing a large shirt, this time a large ethnic garmet, to hide her growing tummy, as she was pregnant in real life.

    • Before Jason is due to be executed, Phoebe calls him "mi amor" - Mata Hari speaks French, and she is supposed to say "mon amour" (which is also written in the closed captions). Mi amor and mon amour are the Spanish and French respective translations for "my love". Mata Hari, a Dutch-born French stripper who was believed to be a double agent for the German would have no reason to say that line in Spanish - it was Alyssa's verbal mistake.

    • What exactly is the list Chris gave them? There doesn't seem to be anything in common for the demons Chris kept sending them after plus with the exception of the last episode no demon seemed to show any power that will be able to convert Wyatt. So what is this?

    • Why doesn't Piper just freeze those swarm demons? Why didn't Paige use her power to send the fireballs back at the demons?

    • So what was Mata Hari? Was she a ghost? If so she shouldn't have been frozen by Piper's power and she obviously possessed some magical powers.

    • When Mata Hari's karma first enters Phoebe's body, Phoebe has a premonition of Mata Hari being executed by the French firing squad. You can hear a woman sobbing and begging and pleading in French. People don't normally watch firing squad executions (like at hangings), so this must have been Mata Hari that was sobbing and pleading. But later, when Jason is about to be executed, Mata Hari tells Jason that when she died, she looked her executioners right in the eye, no begging or anything of the sort.

    • When the sisters were in the catacombs, they were talking by a corner, and their position in the corridor changes from camera shot to camera shot. When we're looking at Phoebe and Paige straight on, they're in front of the corner, but when the camera angle switches to show Piper's face and the sides of Phoebe and Paige, Phoebe has her hand up on the wall, and all three of them are standing next to the wall (around the corner).

    • Before Phoebe and the demons kidnap Jason, he is swarmed by reporters. Then magically gets kidnapped and none of the reporters seem the least bit interested in his escape act, not even when Paige and Piper open the door. Also, wasn't there a driver in the limo? Doesn't he care what happend to his boss?

    • TRIVIA: This is one of only a few episodes (all in season 6) in which Phoebe deflects back demonic powers. Phoebe uses her empathy to tap into demons' emotions, such as anger and hate, which trigger their powers. So by channeling demonic emotions, she's able to channel demonic powers and turn them against their user.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Phoebe: I am so sorry…about everything. The…lies and…
Jason: Hey. Don't. Remember you saved me.
Phoebe: Yeah, but that was after I tried to kill you.
      Jason: Well, there was that.

    • (As they see Phoebe walk out of the house with her strange behavior and outfit)
Piper: Please tell me she didn't…
Paige: …cast a spell on herself? I think she did.

    • Phoebe: You live a double life with your boyfriend, and you pay the price. If anyone's karma made this happen, it's mine.
Paige: That's true. You had the chance to clean this up tonight, and you didn't.
Phoebe: See? There is that "I told you so", huh?

    • (Paige is urging Phoebe to tell Jason that she's a witch, but she's annoyed by Phoebe's hesitation)
Paige: Ok, that was a three-course meal, not including the fruit and cheese plate. I gave a million openings. What do you need, a drum roll?
Phoebe: Actually, that's not a bad idea.

    • Paige: I swear this is where we found The King last time.
Piper: Well, maybe your orbing was off.
Paige: My orbing was not off. They just moved.
Piper: Well, we should be hearing the swarm. So why don't we?
Paige: I don't know. 'Cause there's like a gajillion miles of this stupid maze? They could be anywhere.
Piper: We don't even know if Phoebe is here.
Paige: Well, it's our best bet. I swear, if she is hurt, I am never going to forgive Richard.
Piper: I think Jason's the one we need to worry about right now.

    • Piper: I'm confused. How does cleansing her aura get Jason back?
Paige: No, Phoebe didn't cast the spell. Richard did.
      Piper: Richard wants Jason back?

    • Paige: Ok, you go get Phoebe, I'll go get Richard.
Piper: But what if he's infected, too?
Paige: Well, I'll save him, and then I'll kill him.

    • Paige (to Mata Hari-possessed Phoebe): Since when do you speak Freedom Fry?

    • Piper (when Paige asks whose karma Phoebe must have inherited): By the looks of it, a French hooker.

    • Paige (after Richard claims his spell didn't work): Then how do you explain my sister walking around like she's in the nudie version of "Les Mis"?

    • (Piper pushes a bandage on Paige's injury roughly)
Paige: Ow! You did that on purpose.
      Piper: Yes, I did.

    • Phoebe: ...Especially since I hate the French.
Piper: No you don't, you love everything about France.
Phoebe: Oh. Maybe I just hate getting dumped!

  • NOTES (4)

    • "Mata Hari, isn't she one of the Bond girls?"

This could be an allusion to the very first Bond movie made Casino Royale from 1967, with David Niven as James Bond. The film's plot had Bond and Mata Hari having a daughter, Mata Bond (played by Joanna Pettet).

    • Paige: Then how do you explain my sister walking around like the nudie version of Les Mis?

Les Mis is the shorter title of "Les Misérables" - a famous play by Victor Hugo about a French man who escapes prison and goes from rags to riches while still being persued by a fomer prison guard. It has been turned into a movie and has been performed in many theaters.

    • Phoebe: Saved by the orb.

An adapted saying from the common phrase "saved by the bell".

    • Paige: Since when do you speak freedom fry?

When France opposed the United States in its bid to win United Nations support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the U.S. House of Representatives changed the name of French fries on the menus of their restaurants and snack bars to "freedom fries." The name was changed back to French fries in 2006.
