  • Wicca Envy

Wicca Envy was a perfect episode of Charmed and I really enjoyed watching because Rex and Hannah finally make their move against the Halliwell sisters. The story was both intriguing and engaging with all of its character and plot development. The sisters use their powers and then decide to relinquish them to save Prue from being framed. Leo's true nature is revealed and things end in favor of the sisters. This was a fun and exciting episode of Charmed and I look forward to watching what happens next!!!!!!!!!moreless
  • Rex and Hannah see their end, and Leo comes to the rescue for the first of many, many times.

    8.5
A strength of Charmed was always how quickly it moved through its story lines. We see that here as the Rex and Hannah story line ends in only the 10th episode. This episode marks the first time that we see Leo use his powers, even if some aren't the right powers. It is the first time that we see Leo heal something: the BOS of all things. It is the first time that we see someone orb, as Leo does at the end, cool, and it is also the first time that Leo leaves Piper for a while. Poor girl. The sisters have already established a fabulous chemistry by this point, like true sisterhood, something that would also remain a strength of the series throughout. Alyssa has clearly lost weight since the first episodes were shot, and she is rapidly becoming the hot sister of the series. Holly has totally settled into her role as Piper, and Shannen was always good. Rex gets a lot of action here, and he is suave, sophisticated, and evilly overconfident. Hannah is pretty much a one hit bad guy sidekick, but she is at least nice to look at. We have a lot of magical powers at play here, including a heavy introduction to astral projection. Useful that. The vanquish at the end is rather easy, but it is kind of comical. What was with the fiery immolation at the end? The Source already?

I would give this conclusion to a story arc a higher rating, but the conflict was somewhat idiotic. Certainly, a warlock trying to blackmail the sisters for their powers is a new one, but why would Rex fulfill his end of the bargain again? And since there is no reason, why would the sisters fulfill theirs? No reason, so instead they go with taking a "leap of faith," both strange and out of no where. Fortunately for them, an angel was watching over them.moreless
  • Rex, Lies and Videotape

    8.7
One of the very first classic episodes of Charmed, Wicca Envy sees the end of gruesome twosome Rex and Hannah and introduces the biggest evil the Charmed Ones ever battled... The Source.

Wicca Envy sees Rex and Hannah framing Prue for the theft of a priceless tiara from Buckland's and the murder of a guard. Prue is arrested and it's up to Piper and Phoebe to release Prue from jail and to kill the two warlocks who framed her. Rex blackmails the sisters into giving up their powers for Prue's release.

This is the first "apocalyptic" episode of Charmed and features some shocking twists and turns and sets up many exciting storylines for the rest of the season. The motives behind Rex and Hannah's crimes are well played and it was quite original to see demons resorting to blackmail instead of just random carnage. Wicca Envy also sees a big reveal in Leo, who we discover is a Whitelighter. Though he doesn't do much magic in this episode, he is able to restore the sister's powers without them knowing.

The big fight at the end was well written and I loved Hannah shapeshifting into a panther. I also loved the sisters causing Rex to be eaten alive. Shannen Doherty was brilliant in this episode and conveyed her dilemma very well. The scene where Piper desperately tries to hide the stolen tiara was pure slapstick and her freezing power came in extremely handy.

Wicca Envy is an excellent episode of Charmed which puts the sisters in real peril. Compared to the later seasons, you genuinely worry for the Charmed Ones, something which hasn't been seen in the new episodes.

  • An exciting episode, which gives a satisfying ending to the Rex and Hannah story line.

    8.5
When someone says “Season 1” to me, it is automatically Wicca Envy that comes to mind. It has all of those things that’s special about the first season, and it has that very specific Season 1-feeling toward it. It’s not only exciting, but original and interesting as well. Rex’ decision to get to the sister through black mail is new, even though it will be used again, and shows to be really effective. As we in the future will find out, the sisters are most voulnerable when approached as mortal sisters, rather than magical witches.

Wicca Envy has got some great and nerv-wrecking writing, and good acting all over. The story was magnificantly built up, and the excitement grew with every minute. Leo and Piper were as cute together as always, and the rivalry between Phoebe and Prue got some new air. Prue and especially Shannen really shone in the episode. It’s no secret that Prue is my least favourite sister, but in this episode she was truly great. Although a good episode, it did feature some bad parts, the biggest being Andy. He continues to bore me to no end, and his complete turn over from last episode’s suspicion and paranioa toward Prue makes no sense whatsoever. At times the episode also moved a tad too slow for my liking, but still ended with a blst. The final show-down with Rex and Hannah was really well-written and acted out, and it gave a satisfying ending to the duo. I’m probably one of the only ones in the world who actually liked the two of them, especially Hannah. They were great together and had awsome charac ters, and although necessary, it was hard to see them go.

All in all, Wicca Envy is a classic Charmed episode with great writing, acting and story.

  • Death and Adventure

    10
Finally the sisters learn the truth about Rex Buckland and Hannah Webster, and none too soon i might add. With Rex getting Prue in jail, and severring the Power of Three by keeping them separated, he gets an advantage. I love how Rex used mind control and astral projection to trick Prue into stealing the Tiara, and to get Andy to look for the Tiara in places he had already looked!

Always a classic, but in the end, you cant kill the Power of Three in their first season, it would be absolutely pointless.

I have to rate this episode 10/10, coz its a classic!moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (22)

    • Hannah kills the security guard, Jaime, with a small statue. Yet when she drops it, it makes a hollow sound as if it weighed very little. So, how could something like that kill someone?

    • This is the first episode in which the sisters do not vanquish the Demons/Warlocks they are facing. Rex was killed by Hannah in panther form when Prue uses her telekinesis and Hannah is vanquished by the Source.

    • In this episode, the warlock Hannah is vanquished by an unknown power. It is likely that this is the first vague appearance of the Source or the Triad, punishing her for failing to destroy the Charmed Ones.

    • TRIVIA: Featured music in this episode -
-She's So High by Tal Bachman

    • When Piper and Phoebe leave the house it is light out, but when they get to the jail it is dark.

    • TRIVIA: This is the first time that the Charmed Ones lose their powers.

    • TRIVIA: This is the first of many times that one of the sisters is in jail - this time is is Prue.

    • TRIVIA: This episode must take place during a couple of days because when Prue is in jail, it appears that there is moonlight shining in the jail, but when they show Andy at his desk, it is daylight. Then it is night again when Piper and Phoebe go to break Prue out.

    • When Phoebe gets to Prue in the auction house, she says that Jaime is dead. How would she know this just by looking at him without taking his pulse?

    • When Leo orbs at the end, it seems strange that the door opens to let him out. He's not actually going to the street! And this doesn't happen with future orbings.

    • When Rex is doing his astral projection stuff on Prue at the beginning, he tells her she needs to unpack her briefcase and she does. However, she then opens her briefcase revealing the tiara. Rex doesn't do his power of suggestion on her until after she would have seen the jewelery. She would have reacted immediately seeing the tiara stuffed in her bag.

    • When Rex met the girls at the jail, he told them that Hannah was at the manor retrieving the tiara. How could she break into their house when Leo was there, since Phoebe told Piper that he was in the kitchen before they left?

    • Phoebe asked Andy if the reason he was arresting Prue was because she dumped him, but Andy was the one that dumped her.

    • Having issued them with a search warrant, wouldn't Andy and Darryl's boss expect them to do more than just search a couple of drawers and check under the pillows? The tiara could have been anywhere.

    • Rex says that astral projection is the ability to psychically transport himself to another location, this is incorrect as this is the technical definition for teleportation. The power Rex has isn't astral projection as it requires you to be on the physical plain, the actual power he has is psychoprojection, which is the power to influence people's unconscious minds on the physical plain from another plain.

    • TRIVIA: This is the first episode to show someone orbing.

    • TRIVIA: This is the first episode that Leo displays magical abilities.

    • TRIVIA: This is the final appearance of Leigh-Allyn Baker (Hannah) & Neil Roberts (Rex).

    • When Andy arrested Prue, he didn't read her her Miranda Rights about the right to remain silent. This alone could get Prue off the hook.

    • In one scene before he is frozen, Leo is leaning on the door frame, but when Piper unfreezes him, he is not leaning on the door frame anymore.

    • When Prue is looking up Hannah and Rex on the computer, the search bar finishes for Rex and comes up with the No Listing message. The shot moves to Prue and then back to the computer. For a fraction of a second, you can see the search bar become full again.

    • If Phoebe stayed outside the prison to keep watch while Piper freed Prue then why didn't she spot Rex standing there next to his car ready to take a photo when the sisters finally escaped?

  • QUOTES (14)

    • (Phoebe hides the tiara in the dresser)
Phoebe: We'll hide it in here, they've already looked in it.
(Room unfreezes, Darryl looks under the pillows of the bed)
Astral Rex (to Andy): You want to check the dresser again.
(Andy starts walking over to the dresser, and Piper freezes the room again)

    • Hannah: Well?
Rex: Prue, did exactly as I told her. You know, I rather like this new power.
Hannah: Are you sure she didn't see you?
Rex: No, no, she didn't see me. I was invisible.
Hannah: But then how did you get there?
Rex: I explained this to you, Hannah. It's called astral projection. With it I can transport myself psychically and implant a subliminal thought into Prue's brain. Just like I did when I tricked her into leaving the vault today with the tiara. See, I planted the thought and made her think she came out empty handed.
Hannah: I still don't understand how it works.
Rex: Watch. (He walks across the room and astral projects over to Hannah.) You want to disrobe for him... desperately. (He astral projects back in his body. Hannah stands up and unbuttons her jacket.) Understand now, Hannah?

    • Prue: Kit, what is it?
Rex: You forgot to unpack your briefcase when you got home from work. You want to do it right now. (Prue walks over to her briefcase and unzips it. You see a tiara in there.) What you're about to pick up is a tiara but you really believe it's your date book. (The tiara is now a date book. She gets it out.) Now put it in your desk, just like you always do. (She puts it in the drawer.) Excellent. Now you want to continue getting ready for bed. (Prue takes off her shoes. Kit jumps up on the desk and hisses at Rex. Rex astral projects back in his body.)

    • Prue: I don't know Phoebe, the Betsey Johnson dress may be a bit too much for work.
Phoebe: That's what a new wardrobe's all about. Pushing the limit.
Prue: Yeah, and stretching the budget. Maybe I should just check with Piper.
(They hear Piper laughing and then Piper and Leo run in the foyer. Piper sees them.)
      Piper: Oh my God, Prue.
(She freezes Leo, trips over his leg and slides across the floor and stops at Prue and Phoebe's feet. They help her up.)
      Piper: I'm so embarrassed.
Phoebe: Of course, she might have other things on her mind like having her way with the handyman.
Piper: I thought you guys were supposed to be shopping.
      Prue: Obviously.
      (Phoebe notices Piper's shirt unbuttoned.)
Phoebe: Oh, look, front clasp bra. She means business.
      Prue: Serious business.
      Piper: Do you mind?
Phoebe: No, are you kidding? I think it's great. As long as he's not still on the clock.
Piper: That's what I mean. You guys have to get out of here before he unfreezes. I never know how long this things lasts. (Piper sees all the shopping bags.) How much did you guys spend?
Phoebe: Lots. Prue's new look is perfect for an SHW.
      Prue: SHW?
      Phoebe: Single Hot Witch.
      Prue: Hmm.
Piper: Prue, are you sure this isn't depression buying, you know, post-breakup?
(Phoebe gets some red, sexy lingerie out of a bag.)
Phoebe: Does this look like something a depressed woman would wear?
Prue: (to Piper) Hmm, maybe you should borrow it.
Piper: Okay, time's up. You two gotta go. (She pushes them in the living room.) Go, go in there and be quiet.
Phoebe: We will if you will.
(Piper walks over to Leo and stands where she was standing. He unfreezes and they run up the stairs.)

    • Phoebe: Totally cool power, I hate you.

    • Phoebe: Focus...and think. The last thing we need to worry about is the legal system. We're up against a warlock now.

    • Darryl: You have to admit, you stopped seeing Prue for a reason, you thought she was hiding something from you. How do you know she wasn't hiding something like this?
Andy: A secret life of crime? I don't think so.
Darryl: You got a better explanation?

    • (Astral-projection Rex is angry that Piper keeps freezing him)
Rex (to Piper's subconscious): You're a miserable witch.
Prue (to Piper): What's the matter?
Piper: I don't know, I feel like calling a shrink for some reason.

    • Piper: Keep it quiet back there!
Phoebe: We will if you will!

    • (After Piper and Leo have spent the night together)
Phoebe: Between you and Leo, and Prue the new-hot-Wicca woman, and me, soon to be employed, things are looking up.
Piper: Don't say that! The moment somebody says that everything always goes south!
Phoebe: Unless you freeze him. Ooh! I couldn't help it, it was so good!

    • Phoebe: Prue was right about Rex, which means I'm dating a warlock!
      Piper: Been there, done that!

    • Phoebe: Problems?
      Prue: What problems?
Piper: Well, it's been a while since, you know, I-I was a little nervous, and I kinda kept freezing him.
      Prue: Piper, you didn't?
      Piper: I didn't mean to...the first time.
      Phoebe: Oh!

    • Piper: Why is it someone I'm dating that gets accused of being a warlock? Don't answer that. (the phone rings) Answer that, it's safer.

    • Phoebe: If you ran an Employment Agency, wouldn't you want me?
Prue: Maybe, but I'd definitely want my suit back.
Phoebe: No, this is part of your old wardrobe. I'm just recycling.
Prue: Well, the environment thanks you.
Phoebe: But, take it off, I know, I know.
