Episode Summary

Under the pressure that the Halliwell sisters will discover his evil plot, Gideon conspires with two demons to make Piper, Phoebe and Paige part of "Witch Wars", a new demonic reality television show where demon contestants compete in a series of contests to hunt down witches and steal their powers.moreless

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • A good one.

While it's interesting to think of Phoebe's stats ideas and the whole "someone close to home" and obviously Gideon was feeling that pressure, but he was right. Those stats are designed based on real, normal lives, the newspapers don't take into account demons committing crimes so it's kind of silly. But her flow chart isn't going to point to someone guilty, it's not like it'd highlight Gideon. He looks as innocent as anyone.

Really Sigmund, the man just let a witch die, you think he's going to let you ruin his plan now, stupid. I'm glad Sigmund finally said that what if just being attacked is what turns Wyatt.

Gotta love when Piper says "what if it's Gideon"

I have actually always liked this episode, i enjoyed when they joked about how humans invented reality TV first. It's a good concept, and yeah maybe not done the best, it was still good.moreless
  • Witch Wars

Witch Wars was a superb episode of Charmed and I really enjoyed watching this episode because there was a lot of character and plot development. It was interesting to see Gideon scheming to distract the sisters so he could could enact his plan for Wyatt. The idea of the Demon's tv show Witch Wars was fun and entertaining! I liked the camp factor of the episode and also enjoyed the ending. I certainly look forward to watching the next episode!!!!!!moreless
  • Phoebe gets demonic powers again, and that is BAD for a barful of demons.

After the writers had a bout of temporary insanity the last couple episodes, Season 6 ends with a bang with this entertaining episode and then the sensational season finale. At times, this episode may seem a little silly or contrived, but this is an episode of action, action and more action. The couple that runs the game is interesting to say the least, and their difficulty in keeping their hands off of each other is comical at times. We have a good assortment of bad guys harassing the sisters and once again a magical dagger that steals powers. Gildart Jackson is better than ever as the big bad Gideon, and with the ending you see that he is clearly spinning out of control, crossing the line from obsession to evil. This episode has one of the greatest climaxes of the entire series, and probably had to be one of Alyssa's favorite episodes. She basically became the demons' worst nightmare once she got the powers. Her turning to the screen to threaten the demons and then shimmering into the bar might have been a little improbable, but still, it was awesome to see her rain hell down on a bar of demons. Great stuff. I agree, too bad she had to give all the powers back. I imagine keeping demonic powers would probably corrupt.moreless

    Prime time pandemonium

A clever, if unsubtle, swipe at the world of reality television, 'Witch Wars' sees the Charmed Ones tricked into taking part in a live demonic gameshow. This may sound daft but it actually sets up some great action scenes.

Unfortunately, the story isn't the greatest. The outcome of the game is about as surprising as snow in the Arctic - the Charmed Ones win and all the competitors die. And why is Chris so convinced the demons organising the show are the ones who turn Wyatt evil? They never get anywhere near him. The writers seem a little too hasty to get Gideon off the hook.

However, if you like seeing baddies blown up then this is a classic. First the winner kills the other contestants then he gets knifed by the host. Even the viewers get in on the act. At the rate demons kill each other, and given how few children they seem to have, it's amazing there are any left.

Phoebe's killing spree at the bar is superb. Such a shame she doesn't get to keep her new power. Ok, so she nicked it off a demon but so what? The elders didn't intervene when she had the Source's powers so why would they this time?

Gideon has a key role this week and guest actor, Gildart Jackson, comes up with the goods. I applaud the writers for making this season's big bad an elder. His concern over killing innocents seems genuine yet at the same time he's happy to vaporise his closest friend. Truly disturbing.

It may be a little clumsy at times but it's good value and it does get us to the season finale.

    Score: 8.9moreless
  • Funny, Inventive, and finally some action we've been waiting for!

So the demons decide to have a reality tv show of their own, no surprise and such a cute idea! Those who are really after Wyatt use this as an opportunity to get the sisters off of their trail as Phoebe has been coming remarkably close to figuring out who it is (just in time, too.) I really enjoyed the mix of humor and drama of this episode. We've been so aggrivated all season by several slow plot lines and the recurring season dilema of Who's After Wyatt that it's nice to finally have the sisters make some breakthroughs on that front. This season is almost over, I think we can all be thankful for that, and we finally had a fun episode with just the right amount of action, drama, and suspence. On a side note, Gideon seems to be turning into a knock off darth vader, no?moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (16)

    • TRIVIA: This is the 4th time Phoebe posesses a demonic power - first was in the season 1 episode Is There A Woogy In The House?, second was season 3's Bride and Gloom, and third was in the season 4 episodes We're Off To See The Wizard, Long Live The Queen, and Womb Raider.

    • TRIVIA: This is the last episode of Charmed to feature a warlock (other than in flashbacks).

    • While Paige and Chris is scrying for witches under attack, and Gideon moves the crystal, Paige says "ooh", but the closed-caption calls her Piper.

    • After the shapeshifter attacked (and possibly killed) Phoebe's reporter friend at the office, shouldn't that have brought police attention to her? Everyone at her office knew she was working together with him, so shouldn't she have been called in for questioning?

    • How does Phoebe know where to shimmer to when she goes to the bar and kills all those demons? There must be hundreds of demons in the underworld watching such a popular reality TV show...why didn't she go on a demon killing rampage throughout the underworld? Why bother killing one bar full of voyeuristic demons that weren't even involved with the gamesmasters and their supposed plan to capture Wyatt?

    • How does Phoebe know where to look to be facing the screen at the end of the episode? The cameras were all hidden but she is framed perfectly in the shot.

    • When Gideon goes underground you can see a screen showing some images behind him. Anyway those images change several times without anyone making any changes. First we see a shot that shows the cave, then we see Gideon playing with the little camera, then we see another shot different. How is that possible?

    • In this episode, Paige drinks a glass of what appears to be champagne at the end; however, in the episode Charmed Again, Part 1 she told Shane she doesn't drink because she had a "problem with certain liquids." Since Piper also has a glass, even though she's pregnant, it's likely that what they're drinking is sparkling cider and not champagne.

    • When the darklighter came to kill Tali, he shot Chris, who then fell over the chair in front of him, seemingly unconscious. When Leo, and then Paige orbed in and the darklighter out, Chris, still out cold, had changed position in the chair.

    • TRIVIA: As Sigmund tries to tell the Charmed Ones the truth, Gideon stops him in his tracks and kills him.

    • TRIVIA: There is a reality show in the underworld, "Witch Wars", where upper-level demons have set tasks to do, in which killing witches and gaining powers from both the witches and some demons are the prize.

    • In this episode, Paige keeps worrying about protecting Phoebe, but whatever happened to the magical amulet which protected her past life in the episode "Pardon My Past"? They never got rid of it or destroyed it.

    • If Piper and Gideon are living at a school and Paige & Phoebe are always visiting them, why are there never any students around?

    • The demon in the beginning said that the dead good witch had the ability to shoot fire from her hands. However, in the episode "We're Off to See the Wizard" Leo sees Phoebe uses such a power and states that it is an upper level demonic power.

    • Regarding Phoebe's still holds. We didn't see that much of Wyatt to really tell what kind of person he is. He could still have a darkside or resentment issues. Chris probably knew it happened before he was born because he always knew Wyatt to be the way he is. Maybe Wyatt was a cruel older brother.

    • [If the Elders have the power to look down and watch over things, how come they did not know that Gideon killed his assitance?] Perhaps Gideon has a secret magical barrier around the school, which prevents elders from finding out what he is planning.

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Leo: So what is it we're looking for?
Chris: Any demon that could be powerful enough to be organizing the Underworld, or any demon who might be running some sort of training camp for younger demons, or any demon who could be...
      Leo: So basically any demon.
Chris: Yeah. This sucks, you know that? We're running out of time here, and we've got nothing, repeat nothing, to go on.
      Leo: We've faced worse.
Chris: What's worse than not knowing? For over a year now I've been looking, and you didn't know this deadline was looming, but I did. I knew every single day. That's why I was never able to relax.
Leo: Why didn't you tell us?
Chris: Because I didn't want to get you involved. I was trying to protect you.
Leo: Chris, we're your parents, we're supposed to protect you, not the other way around.

    • Corr (to Clea): Just be patient, my love, and together we'll rule the underworld.
Gideon (invisible): It's an old goal, but a good one.

    • Upper-Level Demon: Just out of curiosity, how did you come up with the idea, anyway?
Clea: Well, we can't take all the credit. You'd think demons would've invented reality television, but somehow humans beat us to it.

    • Paige: Phoebe is out there roaming around the world without any powers.
Chris: Without her active powers. She can still cast spells.
Paige: Great. So when the demon attacks her, let's hope that Phoebe can come up with a little rhyme just in time.

    • Phoebe (talking on her cell phone): A reality what? You have got to be kidding me. Alright. I'll be home as soon as I can. (she hangs up)
Shapeshifter (disguised as Kyle): Is something wrong?
Phoebe: Kind of. Listen, thanks. I-I have to get going.
Shapeshifter (disguised as Kyle): I was having a really good time.
      Phoebe: Really?
      Shapeshifter (disguised as Kyle): Yeah.
Phoebe: Well, thanks again for all your help, and maybe we can talk more tomorrow.
Shapeshifter (disguised as Kyle): Or since you're heading home, I could just come with you.
      Phoebe: I'm sorry?
Shapeshifter (disguised as Kyle): Uh, to check out your place. Look for any, you know, easy entry points. I mean, most bad guys usually attack at home.
Phoebe: Are you sure about that? Because I think I've heard-
Shapeshifter (disguised as Kyle): I'm the expert, right?
      (Phoebe grabs her purse)
Shapeshifter (disguised as Kyle): So let me just come home with you. Make sure everything is alright.
Phoebe: Yeah. Well, that's not gonna happen. See, I'm not going home. I, uh...have to go somewhere else. My fam-
(The shapeshifter could not resist it anymore. He takes out an athame and approaches Phoebe with force, attacks her, and holds the athame to her throat)
Shapeshifter (demanding): Take me to your house, witch. Now!

    • Piper (to Leo, about her pregnancy): You, don't touch me, you're the reason I look like this!

    • Male Gamesmaster: If human beings are foaming at the mouth to humiliate themselves on national television, and they are, then demons are an easy mark.
      Female Gamesmaster: Upper level humans?
Male Gamesmaster: Donald Trump has his own show.

    • Paige puts the crystal on the floor. Demon screams. Paige removes crystal.
Demon: What did I ever do to you?!
      Chris: You're sure he's a demon right?
Demon: Does that give you the right to commit unprovoked acts of violence against me?!
Paige puts the crystal on the floor.

    • Phoebe: See what happens when you make a play for a baby? What's the matter? Scared of me? Are ya?

    • Phoebe: Looks like your show's just been cancelled.

    • Piper: (about Phoebe)You stabbed her?
      Paige: You would've too!
Chris: Yeah, she was pretty obnoxious.

    • Phoebe (weighing her options): Saving my nephew... or kleptomaniac demon...? I really need those books, guys.

    • Sigmund: How are you gonna stop her?
      Gideon orbs out.
      Sigmund: Thanks for sharing.

    • Piper: I'm trying to protect our son!
Leo: From who? The mommy and me teacher?

    • Tali: Who are you?
      Paige: We're the Charmed...uh, one.

    • Leo (referring to the Gamemasters): I'm gonna kill`em.
Gideon: No Leo you're an Elder now, non-violent remember.
      Leo: Watch me.

    • Phoebe: Paige, you're my baby sister, not my babysitter.
Paige: Oh, that's clever. You're very clever. And I'm glad that while I'm panicking, you have the time to be clever!

    • Paige: At least it explains how the demon we trapped today knew how the witch died, he was watching it on TV. Pretty sick.
Leo: No sicker than any other reality TV show.

  • NOTES (3)

    • Chris: Kind of like Survivor, only for demons.

Survivor is a reality-based game show in which people stay on an island and compete to stay to win the prize money. Once you're voted off by other contestants you lose.

    • Title: Witch Wars

This is a reference to the epic film series "Star Wars", created by George Lucas.

    • Male Gamesmaster: Donald Trump has his own show.

A reference to the highly rating reality television show "The Apprentice", in which a goup of young entrepeneurs compete to become Donald Trump's assistant.
