  • Wrestling with Demons

    9.0
Wrestling with Demons was a superb episode of Charmed and I really enjoyed watching as Prue was reacquainted with someone from her past who is being lured to the dark side. The story was well written and very engaging. There was some good character development and lessons learned in this episode. Phoebe finally tells bother her sisters the truth about Cole and it was great to see their reactions and interactions. I look forward to watching the next episode!!!!!!!moreless
  • And it is proven... wicca and wrestling do not mix...

    6.5
Watching this episode is like taking a flying elbow off the top rope.

To add to the ridiculousness of the MMA beatdown, we have Prue doing her last impersonation of Paige, before Paige takes the role full time. Like with Brendan and Bane before, once again we have a man in the doorway to evil who Prue becomes obsessed with saving despite her sisters' misgivings. At least Paige typically only had the habit of putting herself on the line for some innocent; whereas Prue once again puts all the Charmed Ones in danger to save what she believes to be an innocent. I'm not sure when Prue entered the Matrix, but this has some similarities with Primrose Empath with Prue suddenly being a kung fu master. One thing I do like about this episode, on the other hand, is Prue's hard-ass attitude. She is truly Prue Superwitch here. She even ends up saving Tom by merely talking him out of it. Apparently, he just needed to go home and rethink his life. Preposterous.

Besides Prue's attitude, the other thing to like about this episode is the entire Lost and Found spell. Its main purpose was to add humor to the show, and it was largely successful. I especially liked their dog coming back home. Haha...

I believe Phoebe sets the Charmed record here with 3 spells in the same episode from our spellbinder extraordinaire. We also had the end of Phoebe's short-lived secret. As I mentioned before, she fails to tell her sisters that Cole saved her life from the Zoltar. If she would have done so, you would think they would have been more understanding of her decision to not vanquish him. Of course, that could have prevented the writers from setting Phoebe and Prue in opposition once again. And just in time for Cole coming back...moreless
  • An underworld wrestling match in order to save someone's soul is a bit more than I can handle, but I gave the episode a 7 because of the sheer absurdity of it all.moreless

    7.0
This episode was supposed to be extremely serious and cause people to worry a great deal. I get that. The way it was done, however, was bordering on the bizzare as an old boyfriend of Prue's, who is in danger of losing his soul to the Dark Side needs the help of the sisters to save him from goodness knows what.

I think the writers and producers have fallen asleep again. An underworld wrestling match, for goodness sake? Surely they could have come up with something more interesting that THAT for an episode of the show? Obviously not, but they didn't provide much entertainment value either.moreless
  • Who /doesn't/ like the whole good turned evil and back again plot?

    9.5
I don't understand why this episode has such low ratings! It's great! Especially with Tom having to fight against the evil inside of him. There's such passion in that plot line alone! Of course, like most, I thoroughly enjoyed the lost and found spell. Funniest spell of the series (thus far) I think ;) I laughed out loud a few times. Hmm and unlike others, I didn't mind Phoebe's timing in telling her sisters about Cole either. It seemed like it would never be a good enough time for her so she might as well blurt it out at the last second. Sort of like ripping the bandaid off quickly as opposed to slowly peeling it, nice and painfully. Over all, good episode!! Very very good. Loved Tom, loved the plot, loved the side plot. Loved the episode.moreless
  • The Sisters Kick Some Demon Ass (and then have a nice heart to heart).

    9.5
I don't often review, especially reruns, but I just loved this episode and I had to respond to that low 7.8 rating. It was a great episode full of the great little bits that live on long after the flaws have been forgotten [such as Prue saying "I know that demon, I dated that demon!" and all the lost socks which return because of Phoebe's lost and found spell (where do lost socks go?)]. Then there was Piper having a real blast teasing Phoebe with sarcastic barbs once she found out that Phoebe didn't kill Cole and was still hiding that fact from Prue. And Darryl who struggles with his mantra ("The less I know, the happier I am") as the lost dogs and socks and souls pile up. I could go on listing moments, but, read the quotes. Better yet, pop some popcorn, watch the episode, and get ready to laugh.

In closing, I know that some didn't like the wrestling bit, but it was a perfect metaphor for this show (and most TV shows). Just like a staged wrestling match, you have a morality play set-up where the good guys (in this case, the good gals) always win in the end. In this show, the good gals can even go to hell (or die), because you know that they'll come back again (Shannen Doherty's strange departure not withstanding). And, please, let's not forget Ron Perlman as the level boss - even when he's not at his best, he's a real treasure. Enjoy!moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (15)

    • When Tom is about to kill the woman from the newspaper Piper freezes him. You can see a car in the background which three people had just gotten out of. We see them freeze (albeit slightly out of time), then we see the sisters run towards Tom and in that split second, the three people aren't standing by their car anymore!

    • This is the only time that the chevrons have ever been mentioned or shown to demonstrate the demon heirarchy.

    • When Phoebe finally tells Prue about having let Cole go she compares the situation to Tom. Why didn't she also bring up Brendan the warlock priest who they just stopped from killing the girl his brothers kidnapped and Baine Jessup who while not a demon had tried to kill all of them in and then after breaking out of prison Prue slept with and helped save him from Litvak. While she could say that neither Tom or Brendan killed anyone,Baine we know had at least ordered the hits of all 13 of the witches on Barbas' list, nine of which were successful. While he may not have directly killed these woman he orchestrated the killings and tried to kill them. So doesn't that make him a killer too?

    • TRIVIA: This is the third time that Prue has brought a badguy into her home and been determined to save him from evil against her sisters' wishes. Previously she has done the same with Brendan the warlock preist and mobster Baine Jessup - each time she has been succesful.

    • Doesn't it seem odd that if Phoebe really wanted to tell Prue about her letting Cole go that she kept insisting on vanquishing Tom? You'd think if she really wanted Prue to take the news well she would have empathised with Prue and encouraged her to save Tom so Prue would maybe be more receptive!

    • When the demons that are standing behind Kellman are supposed to be frozen, you can see them blinking and moving.

    • If the girls are all about saving innocents, then why didn't they try saving the first guy that was wrestling in the ring? They just watched him die.

    • In From Fear to Eternity Phoebe said that her fear was elevators. If that were true then why didn't she hesitate to go in the elevator in Kellman's office?

    • The sweater that Phoebe is wearing when the sisters go to save Tom was also seen in an episode of Gilmore Girls that aired two weeks after this one ("Concert Interruptus").

    • In this episode Prue says she dated Tom in college but in the season 2 episode "Heartbreak City", Cupid didn't list him as one of her past relationships.

    • When Leo is in Darryl's office, Darryl closes the door so that nobody sees Leo, but right on the wall there is a camera pointed right at them, so it would have caught Leo orbing both in and out.

    • When Leo is in Darryl's office, he opens up the file to look at it, but when the camera goes back to him before he orbs out, the file is closed while he's looking at it before he even starts to orb.

    • After Phoebe gets her brown hair back it stays that way until they go looking for Tom. Then her hair is blonde again and when they get back to the manor it's brown.

    • Phoebe's spell to fix everything said to return the things they didn't want to find. Well, why is all the junk that came back, and her hair color, still there--they didn't want to find it.

    • In the underworld, Piper freezes Tom before Prue recommends the trade, having the girls enter the ring in his place. When Tom is frozen, he is looking straight ahead, head half down. Right before the girls go into the corner to talk before they enter the ring, Tom had is head up and looking to his right.

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Leo: I sorta...kinda lost the wedding ring.
      (Piper and Prue gasp)
Darryl: Got a great ring guy downtown if you need one.
Piper: He doesn't need one. He has a ring. Mom's ring. I gave it to him so he could give it back to me at the perfect romantic moment!
Phoebe: Wow. Leo, you lost Mom's ring. It's a good thing you're dead already.

    • (After Phoebe tells Prue that she didn't vanquish Cole)
      Phoebe: Prue...
      Prue: Ooh!
      Phoebe: Uh, are we OK?
Prue: Not by a long shot. Look, Phoebe, if you waited till now to tell me about Cole in hopes that we would die and you wouldn't have to deal with me, you have another think coming.
Phoebe (as Piper points at her): I think that went well.

    • (After Leo orbs in, gets an address, and orbs out again - leaving him behind)
Darryl: Oh, see, OK, now, that ain't right!

    • (As the Charmed Ones enter the elevator to hell)
Piper: Remind me again why we are doing this?
Phoebe: Because your sisters have a thing for saving bad boys.
Piper: If I die before I get married I'm going to be really mad at the two of you.
(They scream as the elevator falls and crashes in the underworld)
      Phoebe: Oh, oh God!
Piper: OK, I'd still like to point out that I have a really bad feeling about this.

    • Phoebe (as all the lost things keep coming back): I hope this doesn't effect my virginity.
Piper: Wait, so everything is coming back to where it was lost? That means you lost your vir… Oh!
(A large pile of lost socks and such push open a door in the kitchen)
Phoebe: OK, so it's a big side effect.
Piper: Those better be clean. If not, it's laundry day for you, missy.

    • Prue: Wow, you came up with a whole ritual that fast?
Piper (sarcastically alluding to the secret Phoebe is keeping from Prue): Actually, not as fast as you would think.
(Phoebe kicks Piper under the table)
Prue: Well, thank you. I really appreciate you guys doing this for me.
Piper: She didn't exactly do it for you.

    • Prue: Does anybody else want a piece of this?

    • Prue: Alright, we have to save Piper.
Phoebe: How do we do that?
      Prue: By kicking ass.

    • Phoebe: I cast a little spell.
Darryl: The less I know, the happier I am.

    • Prue (to Phoebe): Alright, I am going to win this fight and save your ass. That way I can kick it myself later.

    • Leo: You have to tell them, Phoebe. You can't wait any longer.
Phoebe: Well, it's not really an easy thing to drop into conversation, Leo. You know, like "your hair looks great". Cole's not dead. I let him go.

    • Leo: I had it in my pocket, Piper. All the orbing in and out...
Piper: Your orbs are grass if you do not find that ring.

    • Prue: I know that demon...I dated that demon!

    • Phoebe: Wow, Leo, you lost Mom's ring?! It's a good thing you're dead already.

    • Phoebe: Piper also babbles when she's nervous.
Piper: I resent that. I am expressing a valid concern about this continuing issue in our lives.
Prue walks in holding a yearbook.
Prue: What are you babbling about?
Piper: You know, if I could freeze the two of you, I would, often.

    • Prue: Ugh, innocents and alleys. Don't they ever learn?
