A friend of Dr. Hyatt's, Judge Ralph G. Addison, has been receiving anonymous calls and letters warning that he will die if a man he sent to death row is executed. Checkmate's investigation raises questions about the condemned man's guilt, and the judge's character.

    Well, I wanted to like this one, but unfortunately the plot proved so implausible and downright silly that I found it impossible to do so. Indeed, things only got more ridiculous the more it progressed. At least there were a few fun moments...like the stop-in at the big cell (in the Big House) which was momentarily a Coffee House featuring that old favorite "Barbara Allen" (the railroaded kid was good anyway). Oh yeah, and Gregory's conniption fit early on when Cabot upends the card table with his great girth was pretty comical. :)moreless
