The Checkmate team is in Chinatown on behalf of a colleague of Dr. Hyatt's, a Dr. James Low, who claims his Chinese wife may try to kill a man who is supposedly blackmailing her in an attempt to ingratiate himself into Chinese society. The trade winds come blowing to us all the way from Cathay on this one. The plot is about as plausible (and along the same lines actually) as that Outer Limits where the Chinese are all set to take over the US government; and every once in a while the orchestra dips into a few bars of "Sukiyaki" or something, just to let us know what they're dishing up. On the plus side, the guys are acting more like they really know each other now (with it well into the second season, so they actually kind of do by this point); also, McClure has blessedly given up that constant rictus grin of his and has decided to play things serious once in a while. It's all ultimately for naught though, as the whole shebang turns out to hinge on more flimsy stage hypnosis hocus pocus. Oh yeah, and one more good thing: at least we get a look at Seinfeld's Chinese restaurant guy early on in his career.moreless
