  • Not nearly enough suspense

    7.0
Not terribly much suspense or intrigue in this one...and frankly, this show needs all the suspense it can get (especially when there isn't a superstar or two in the cast). Dick Shawn was definitely one of those "names on the tip of my tongue" throughout. Interesting that, though he was pretty much nothing but a callous jerk (at least while on screen), the sympathy seemed to be with him the whole time. The cross-up at the end was fairly cool, but it still wasn't enough to swing it. Btw TV stalwart Emhardt runs up against a bit of an epiphany there, and yet nobody else seems to notice; I was waiting to hear acknowledgment of what seemed to be his major change of direction in the final bit, but all we get is another (lame) joke by Shawn, and that's the end. I guess you have to approach things from the criminal's point of view, rather than the detective's (something I'm always willing to do...lol), in order for those moments to loom large. Interesting look at an early drunk-driving crusader anyway...proving that some people were thinking about that stuff, even in pioneer days.moreless
