  • Too cerebral a premise

    7.0
Unfortunately, the farcical tableau at the start of this one sets the overriding tone for the whole thing. Randall is good of course (as well as neat) in this psychotic extension of his Rock Hunter role, but not even he can breathe true life into such a cerebral premise. The stretch in prison is pretty entertaining, but at the end we're just left with his promise to himself next time to buy a stopwatch that works. Also have no idea why the Chris Devlin character is introduced; couldn't Jed haven't taken on that role as well, with the notion that Luther Gage had never met him? The whole thing plays like one of those attempts to turn an episode into a pilot for another show (a la the Star Trek with Robert Lansing).moreless
