It's reported that it was Ted Danson's decision to end this series.  It was still high in the ratings so could this show have continued without the Sam Malone character?  IMHO I'd have probably liked it more.  I'd have to say that Sam was my least favorite character to ever appear on the show.  As long as they kept up the good writing, I think it could've lasted without him.

    What do you think?

the show probably couldve gone on, but it wouldve been a major drop in quality without Sammy

it was said by Warren Littlefield on a documentary on the seinfeld DVD's that he got a call in December 1992 from Ted Danson saying he couldn't play Sam anymore, and "had to learn how to be Ted again", and that's why the series ended and it's timeslot went to seinfeld

I can't really fathom the series without Sam. He's basically the whole nucleus of the series, everything revolves around him. Maybe it's a good thing that they didn't even think to go there.

The show ended at the right time. Year 11 was alright, but a possible Year 12 would've been overkill. Eleven years seems to be the breaking point for most long-running sitcoms...
