I've managed to get in touch with some people at Paramount about future Cheers DVD releases. Regarding Season 9 in the US I received the following message.

"I have been informed by Home Video that they are not planning to release any further seasons of Cheers, the sales kept dropping, and it was no longer possible to keep releasing them."

And then being from the UK, where we only have up to Season 6, I enquired about if and when seasons 7 and above would be out. To this question I received the following emails (in chronological order).

"Due to previous sales, CBS decided not to release anymore seasons internationally since Season 6."

"I forgot to clarify that this is the decision for the time being - CBS is still evaluating, but for now we will not be releasing. I will definitely keep you posted."

I would imagine this wasn't the news anyone who views this forum was looking for, but it's news from Paramount themselves.

I don't know how I can see seasons 9 and above, as it isn't shown in the UK any more; if anyone has any ideas I'd really like to hear them.

    That's that then.

I am now in the process of transfering my old VHS videos of Cheers to DVD, ones that I recorded from TV. So, now, although I will be able to watch seasons 9-11 the quality is not as good as the box sets. But it is better than nothing.

This comes to no suprise to me. However, there are box sets that keep coming out, that have the worst sales record in history and they still stock the shelves with them. When I go to Wal-Mart or FYE, I still see tons of M.A.S.H DVD's or Seinfelds, Maried with Children, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens...Etc: I never see anyone buy these box sets, and still they can't release Cheers.. This is B.S. This is just my luck; They release shows I hate, but they never show or release the things you like. They are even releasing the Adams Family from the 60's... What is that about...Don't get me wrong! I like that show, but, I can't watch that crap for more than 30 minutes... Who knows what is really going on.

The whole situation really gets on my nerves. I heard somewhere that Cheers was supposed to be the most successful comedy of all time and that the show won many awards. They release some real rubbish on DVD but they can't release the final seasons of Cheers.

    Shelton,

You seem to be one of the few with episodes from Seasons 9 and above. Have you any plans to share them online somehow? I would imagine many would appreciate it.

    Hi...

Thanks for your interest. However much I would enjoy helping other Cheers fans to get hold of seasons 9-11 I'm afraid I cannot. Firstly, I don't know how I would do it online and secondly I'm sure it would be illegal.

    Sorry mate,
