Hi all Cheers fans. I am getting worried that Paramount are going to abandon the final 3 seasons of Cheers and season 9 & 10 of Frasier. We all know that after season 4, they abandoned the region 2 DVDs but I hope that this isn't going to happen again. It seems ages since they released season 8. Surely we should of heard something by now.

    Does anyone know anything?

Didn't Season 8 come out about four months ago?

My guess would be before Christmas...

i'd like to think that too, but we haven't gotten any info on it. Normally they would give out info 4-5 months before it's released

That's pretty odd because originally Paramount said Season 9 and 10 would be released in 2006.. Now it doesn't look like either will.. That's not good to hear.. Although I doubt it was halted.. the final 3 seasons will come out eventually.. finally Region 2 production is resuming for a tentative release date of Nov 13, 2006 for Season 5 on Region 2

I don't think that they will stop releasing Cheers on dvd now, since they only have three seasons left.

I've found some information on Answers.com which may be helpful.  2005 saw the release on Region 1 DVD of Seasons 4 through to 7 at intervals of 4, 3, and 2 months respectively.  This may have created the impression that later Seasons would follow as quickly.  However, Season 8 was not released for another 7 months (June 13th 2006).  At that rate we could hope for Season 9 by the end of this year - I think it really is too early to assume that Paramount have abandoned Seasons 9 and 10.  Interestingly, Season 11 (the final) was released November 16th 2004, between Seasons 3 and 4.  Sony Pictures did something similar with Dawson's Creek - the finale was released between Seasons 1 and 2.  So personally I would not panic just yet - I can't imagine Paramount would pull the plug so near to the end.  By the way, spare a thought for us in the UK - the releases seem to have stalled bigtime. We waited over 10 months between 3 and 4, and 5 has not yet been confirmed.  I have hacked my player to multiregion and ordered the rest of the Seasons from the US.

Season 11 of Cheers has not been released yet. I believe you are thinking of Frasier seasn 11 which has indeed been released.

I'm sorry - I completely misread this thread. I thought it was referring to Frasier!!

I couldn't see why they would stop releasing them now as they are so close to the end of the series. I think it would piss a lot of people off and possibly give Paramount a bad a bad rep as they have started a lot of shows and then stopped them: Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days, Mork and Mindy, Taxi. All shows I would love to pick up but until the studio resumes commitment I won't bother!

I also doubt that they will no longer release them, but I wish that the 9th seasons of Cheers and Frasier would have come out already.

well, it didn't give a date...just saying that Frasier and Cheers are usually around the same time. Unfortunately still no date for Cheers
