I adored coach. He was my second to favorite character. Woody was too... stupid for my liking.

Coach was a little slow too, but he was so hilarious. Woody... wasn't. LOL. Yeah. You guys are gonna kill me now, right?

you've got that right. Coach got boring after a while, and Woody never seemed to lose it. You're choosing coach cuz he was in the Diane years! lol. I know u too well!

I liked them both, but the actor who played coach had more range than Woody. The episode with Coach's daughter was one of the emotionally touching Cheer's episodes ever. The one where he forgave his friend T-bone was also touching. Coach was much better at conveying an emotionally touching side than Woody, and you could see why everyone loved Coach. Sure he was slow, but he was a sweet guy who always stood by his friends.

Woody never was able to bring that emotional side to the show that Coach did. He was funny, but never really touchingly so like Coach.

Though I like both characters, Coach was able to bring something to the show that Woody did not.

woody brought the youth and energy that coach didn't have. Coach was great while he was around, but Woody was better for the long run.

Coach was a lot sweeter and though he played the same sort of dumb guy role as woody he was a lot more subtle. Woody could never have the sweet moments that diane and coach shared and I found that those transcended the show beyond a simple comedy.

I'd have to go with Woody.  Harrelson played the part very well.

Coach was better. Woody's "simplicity" bugged me after a while.

I won't choose.  I will say this:  Coach was a static character, a fully formed man in his late fifites, having already married, raised a child and been widowed, and having completed a long career in baseball..

Woody Boyd changed and evolved, however slightly, over his eight years as a character.  He was basically a boy, he grew into a young man, got married, started a family, fluked into Boston City Council, and began to stand up for himself against Carla, Sam and his father-in-law, and even began to demonstrate a sarcastic streak.

Oh come on, "Crazy carla ? Crazy like a door knob."

Woody was great too, it's hard to pick but Coach has my vote.
