The news anchor's name was Joanne but, toward the end of the episode, in the final commentary before Sam is fired, when the puppet "Little Sam" tosses it back to the anchor, it sounds as if Sam says "Diane." If so, an obvious slip after 5 years of saying Diane.
Cliff: I guess [Sam] won't be showing his face around here tonight.
Carla: Would you come into a place where everyone thought you were a complete idiot? Never mind.
Rebecca: Well you used to be the boss. How did you feel when people lied to you?
Sam: I had a rule, when anyone ever lied to me they had to go to bed with me.
Rebecca: That's one way to make sure it won't happen again.
Sam: Right now I gotta get Rebecca to give me the rest of my nights off.
Norm: No problem there, Sammy. I don't think you work here anymore.
Norm: Sammy, it was the single greatest exhibition of sports casting I've ever seen in my life and I'm not just saying that to get a free beer. If the spirit does move you Sammy I take a size 12 sudsy.
Sam: What am I going to do about this?
Frasier: Sam, may I suggest deception?
Cliff: Well hold onto your horses there, Frasier. I mean as a psychiatrist isn't your job to seek and uphold the truth?
Frasier: Get real, Cliff.
Dave: I make an ungodly amount of money and I know exactly how to use it.
Rebecca: You must be a friend of Mr. Malone's.
Dave: Sam, I've got a proposition for you.
Sam: no no no. If she's not good enough for you, I sure don't want her.
(Regarding Sam's ventriloquist act on TV.)
Rebecca: If either of them mentions the bar, I'm suing.
Woody: Make him talk Sam, make him say my name!
Sam: Time to rap about a controversy. Gonna take a stand, won't show no mercy. A lot of folks say jocks shouldn't be doin' the sports news on TV. I don't wanna hear the latest scores from a bunch of old broadcasting school bores. So get your scores from a guy like me who knows what it's like to have a groin injury. Gra..Gra...Groin Injury!
This episode is the first of three appearances by Catherine MacNeal as Joanne, a local news anchor.
Fred Dryer's last appearance on Cheers. (Of course, Dryer was one of the finalists to play Sam Malone.)
