    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • Rebecca says "she will call the state liquor board to renew the license". In Massachusetts, liquor licenses are issued by the individual towns and cities, not by the state.

    • QUOTES (5)

      • (Rebecca brags to Lilith that Sam has put her in charge of the bar)
Lilith: Bravo. Some men still need to learn that women can take on roles traditionally held by men and perform them as well or better. We live in an era of female brain surgeons... astronauts... supreme court justices.
        Rebecca: And bar managers.
        Lilith: Yes.

      • [Sam, Cliff, Norm, Frasier and Phil are ready to play poker; Woody admits he knows how to play]
Woody: Actually, I was the best poker player in the entire metro Hanover area.
Cliff: Well, uh, you're in the city now, Woody.
Woody: Well I guess you do play different than a bunch of farm boys.
Sam: Oh, yes we do. Why don't you sit down, Woodrow?
Woody: Oh, thanks. Take it easy on me.
Norm: Ok. What sort of game would you like to play, huh?
Woody: Well, how 'bout, uh... "Five blind piglets and one full teat"?
Norm: What the heck kind of game is that?
Woody: That's where five city boys lose all their money. [starts dealing one-handed]

      • [Norm and Cliff are planning a poker game]
Woody: You know, uh, I always wanted to learn how to play that game.
Cliff: You, uh, you never played poker, huh, Woody?
Woody: Nope. Played all kinds of card games at Hanover, but never poker. I was pretty good, too. I'd win all the time.
        Cliff: Uh-huh.
Woody: Yeah. "Chicken in a box"... "one-eyed rooster"... "possum on a pole".
Norm: What the heck kind of games are that?
Woody: No, no, that's what the winner got.

      • [as John is leaving]
Carla: Why don't you just get lost, you sweat-hog!
        John: Sewer rat!
        Carla: Bag of bones!
        John: Maggot! [he leaves]
Carla: Am I the only one who finds him really attractive?

      • [John Hill wants the bar gang to behave]
John: For the next three hours I need you and the rest of the Cheers' chimps to hold down the noise. Right now I'm entertaining 200 elderly women from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Sam: Givin' 'em a first-hand account, John?
John: Very amusing. Sam, this vent connects directly to my dining room and often we can hear everything you say down here. So tell your mailman to go to that side of the bar if he wants to describe his fungal infections.
Norm: You know, I have to second that.

    • NOTES (2)

      • Kevin Sorbo, future star of 'Hercules: The Legendary Journeys' and 'Andromeda,' makes an uncredited guest appearance as a bar patron in this episode.

      • In the episode of Wings that aired afterwards, Kelsey Grammer and Bebe Neuwirth appeared as Frasier and Lilith. Frasier even mentions during this episode that he and Lilith are going to Nantucket.
