  • A wonderful show

Norm needs to pay his bar tab, but instead of paying the huge tab, Rebecca lets him paint her office. Rebecca tells Norm some personal things, and Norm does the same. Norm then tells Sam about it, and Sam then realizes the key to it all with her is honesty.
  • A turning point for Rebecca.

The Rebecca we know at the end of the series is much different than the one we meet at the beginning of season 6. This episode marks the beginning of this transformation.

She confides in Norm, and starts the making of her first friend from Cheers. She also talks to Sam much more than before, and we really start to get to know her better. They start her off as an executive, no nonsense character that may have been meant for us to dislike. This marks the beginning of us falling in love with Rebecca Howe.

This is also the beginning of Norm's soon-to-be painting business.moreless
  • In order to pay off his bar tab Norm is forced to paint Rebecca's office.

In this episode we learn so much about three of the characters. Norm is the primary focus of the episode when Rebecca cuts off his bar tab. We learn how much beer plays a factor in his life though he isn't a drunk. Also through the episode we see his inner character. He's devoted to the task at hand and has a caring heart.

Rebecca isn't nearly as cold a fish as other previous episodes have protrayed. She does have another side even though it is only visible to Norm in her office.

While Sam seems to be up to his usual tricks with Rebecca. But when the time comes he can be a gentleman if only briefly reverting to his sleazy sex crazed self.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Goof - When Rebecca gives Norm a "beer on the house," Same puts a beer in front of Norm. The scene cuts to Carla then back to Norm and Sam. The beer, as well as a bowl of nuts, are seen in front of Norm. The scene then cuts to a shot of just Norm and there is no beer and no bowl in front of him. The next scene is Sam giving Norm his beer.

    • When Rebecca and Sam are talking, Sam mentions his brother Derek and all about him being an international lawyer and owning his own plane. We were of course first introduced to Derek in Showdown Part 1, when he almost took Diane away from the bar but she turned him down for Sam.

  • QUOTES (0)

  • NOTES (3)

    • This is the first and only episode where Kirsey Alley does the intro line "Cheers is filmed before a live studio audience."

    • Rebecca is from San Diego and has two brothers and a younger sister. Her sister, Susan, even appears in a future episode--"Sisterly Love."

    • When Sam tries to coax details out of Norm about his private conversation with Rebecca, Sam reminds Norm that he should be thankful that he wasn't subjected to details of Sam's relationship with Diane
