Sam has eyes for another woman, and it's no less than city council candidate Janet Eldridge. Diane worries that not only is she about to lose Sam on perhaps a for-good basis, but that Eldridge is using Malone to gain image points in predominantly Irish and certainly baseball-loving Boston.

Diane must divert attention from the illustrious Eldridge to win back both Malone and her dignity. Janet won't give up without a fight, and urges Sam to give Diane the boot. Chambers vows unemployment before dishonor and is ready to show herself the door.

Meanwhile, Norm deals with an unwelcome visitor who could threaten his very unusual but sincere love for his wife Vera.

Will fidelity win the day? Will Diane ever get back her job and her boyfriend? Will we ever figure out where Diane got the awful hat?

There's nothing like a catfight, and a chance to root for the good guys.moreless

    • Woody: Hey, Mr. Peterson, can I pour you a beer?
Norm: Okay Woody but be sure to stop me at 1. Ah, make that 1:30.

    • Sam: Carla, has it ever occurred to you that Diane doesn't really belong here?
Carla: You mean this bar or this planet?

    • Janet: Since things are over between you and Diane, I wonder why she still continues to work here.
      Sam: She's gotta work someplace.
Janet: She owe you money that's she trying to work off?
      Sam: No.
Janet: Would you lose customers if she leave?
Sam: No. As a matter of fact, I'd probably get a few back if I did let her go.

    • Woody: What's going down, Mr. Peterson?
Norm: My cheeks on this barstool.

    • Diane: Frasier, have you been telling people that I had a sex change operation again?
      Frasier: No. (Jim) guessed.

  • NOTES (1)

    • Sam says that the longest relationship he'd ever had with a woman was the one year with Diane -- which indicates that he wasn't married very long to Debra, his ex-wife (who appeared once way back in the second-ever episode Sam's Women, played by Donna McKechnie). This pretty much fits in with Sam's character, actually.
