Episode Summary

EDIT
Jeopardy makes an appearance in Boston, and Cliff gets on the show. The Jeopardy! round had all 6 categories Cliff specializes in, such as celebrities or the US Postal Service. But when Final Jeopardy approaches, he loses all his money putting a stupid response "Who are three people that have never visited my kitchen?" and becomes depressed afterwards. Meanwhile someone has stolen Sam's little black book and started ringing all the girls in it.moreless

One of the best episodes of cheers ever. Cliff wins big bucks on Jeopardy! but blows it all in final jeopardy. A thing that has happend to many people that have been on the show. That is what makes this a classic episode of cheers. I can't wait for it to come out on dvd.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • The correct answer to the last Jeopardy clue was "What were the real names of Cary Grant, Tony Curtis and Joan Crawford?"

    • The woman near Cliff who had $3300 wagered $2900 leaving her with $400 left, yet after this occurs when Cliff is arguing with Alex about how his answer should be right, you can see in the background that it shows that the woman still has $3300. But when they cut back to the woman's score it's back to $400.

    • Cliff is talking to Alex throughout the entire final jeopardy theme, until Alex says "You have about 5 seconds to write your answer". it seems a little unlikely that Cliff would have been able to write "Who are 3 people who have never been in my kitchen?" in less than 5 seconds.

    • You can see Cliff's answer in final jeopardy before they reveal it

    • If Sam had Rebecca's number in his black book, why would the person call the bar and not her house?

    • Sam's little black book at first seems to be in alphabetical order by first name (the first two girls' names started with "A"). They then try to think of someone whose name starts with "H" and realize that Rebecca is next on the list, using her last name, Howe, not "R" for Rebecca.

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Timmy: I've always wanted to be a Sam Malone.
Sam: You wanna be a ball player?
Timmy: No, I wanna be a babe hound.

    • Carla: Why don't you give the guy a break?
      Rebecca: Why should I?
Carla: because if you don't then I have to bring up that think I happen to know about.
      Rebecca: What thing?
Carla: That very personal thing I happened to over hear. You know what I'm talking about. That thing that if it ever got out you don't be able to show your face around here again.
Rebecca: (to Sam) What is it you want me to do?
Norm: Carla, that's amazing. What have you got on her?
Carla: Nothin'. I bluffed and she crumbled.

    • Rebecca: Why would I want to help Sam get back his great big book of bimbos?
Carla: Because you're the next great big bimbo he's gonna call.

    • Sam's black book is missing
Sam: Are you sure that one of you guys didn't just pick it up and browse through it? I'm not going to be mad at you.
Norm: Sam, trusting the book with us is like trusting the H bomb with a pack of spider monkeys.

    • Woody: Wait a second, my watch is gone. Oh here it is on my right hand. I took it off my left hand so it wouldn't get wet when I was washing the bar glasses.
Norm: Wood, don't you use both hands when you wash the glasses?
      Woody: It's okay. It's waterproof.

    • Alex Trebek: Oh I just came in for a drink, he scares me.
      Norm: You too?

    • Sam: The man's gone through my entire list of babes. First the A's then the B's, all the way through the G's. Where's he gonna strike next?
      Frasier: The H's?
Woody: That's good work Dr. Crane, you gotta think like a criminal.
Frasier: Or just someone acquainted with our alphabet.

    • Cliff: I'm nothing but a loser. I'm no good for anything
Guy in bar: Oh, that's OK Cliff, we understand.
Cliff: I can't believe I lost on Jeopardy.
Guy in bar: Oh...you were on Jeopardy?

  • NOTES (3)

    • The Jeopardy categories in Cliff's game include: Civil Servants, Stamps from around the world, mothers and sons, beer, bar trivia, and celibacy.

    • John Ratzenberger (Cliff) was not the only member of the "Cheers" cast to visit the "Jeopardy" set; Woody Harrelson (Woody) also visited the set when, in the movie "White Men Can't Jump", his girlfriend (Rosie Perez) got onto the show.

    • Cliff's final Jeopardy response was "people who have never been in my kitchen." That response became a category on the actual show.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • The Jeopardy categories used in this episode were actually used on Jeopardy during the Ultimate Tournament of Champions on May 10, 2005.
