China Invitational

Show Summary

China Invitational is a part of Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports. International athletes gather in Beijing, China to compete in sports including BMX Vert, Skateboard Vert, and Skateboard Park. Events are covered online, as well as on NBC and MTV. The China Invitational, first held in 2008, is the first international Alli competition. In 2009, the China Invitational was held in the gymnasium at Beijing University and was the first time the competition was broadcast on NBC. 2009 was also the first year that BMX Vert was added to the competition. Athletes for the first China Invitational were invited based on their standing in another Alli competition, the Dew Cup. Bringing this competition to China has helped gain international recognition for action sports. It has also helped competitors from the United States compete against international athletes for the first time. The China Invitational includes athletes such as Greg Lutzka and Austen Seaholm competing in the Skate Park. Pierre Luc Gagnon and Andy MacDonald are competing in the Skate Vert. Jamie Bestwick and Chad Kagy are competing in the BMX Vert. This is an event that will keep getting more popular in time with all the media attention.moreless
