The names of the characters of Detective Donald Drake and his faithful canine companion Plato are a pun on the Disney characters Donald Duck and Pluto, who were many times seen as antagonists to Chip and Dale in the original Chip'n'Dale cartoons.

When Percy the goon picks up Dale thinking he's a gun and Dale cries out "Bang bang bang!", this is an allusion to the old Chip N Dale Cartoon The Lone Chipmunks in which Dale did this to Pete.
