Just like season 4's episode Mitchell & Woods, Ponch and Jon are seen only at the beginning, and the end of this episode.
Feeling as if he'd spent the previous three seasons in Erik Estrada's shadow, Larry Wilcox left the show. He didn't feel as if he was treated as Estrada's equal, and didn't get a fair shake amidst Estrada's salary dispute. They both got raises, but Larry's was smaller. Also, he resented the fact that he was a more seasoned actor than Estrada, but Estrada got all the attention on the set (with scripts even written around Estrada), and off the set (fans, letters, etc).
Fred Dryer (Lt. John LeGarre) would go on to star in Hunter. John Rhys-Davies may be best known for playing Prof. Maximilian Arturo in Sliders.
This is Larry Wilcox's final appearance on CHiPs. Tom Reilly (Rick Nichols) will later join the cast as Officer Bobby Nelson after Larry Wilcox (Jon) leaves the show. This is the only time Larry Wilcox and Tom Reilly are ever in the same episode of CHiPs.
This episode was the second unsuccessful attempt "CHiPs" made at a spinoff. (The first was "Mitchell & Woods".) The series would have been called Force Seven: The Deadly Arrow.
