I saw and read that some anime series are simular to 'Chobits'. I heard that 'DearS' is simular to 'Chobits' only it's about Aliens instead of Robots. An anime I just saw that really reminds me of 'Chobits' alot is 'Hand Maid May' since it has a very simular storyline and it's also about robots that are almost identical to humans. The gag of where the button to turn Chii on is even used in a different way in the first episode. I found that convenient.

DearS is similar in concept of a special alien that's different from the usual group, and she gets paired off with a goofy guy. But instead of a roommate guy buddy, the main character has a neighboring female childhood friend. And there are other aliens that interact. The VA for Mitsuka is the same as Ms. Hibiya but their personalities are complete opposites.

I wonder if Hand Maid May came before or after Chobits?

Yes! It did. 'Chobits came out on April of 2002 while 'Hand Maid May' came out on July of 2000. I still like 'Chobits' more.

Cool. I should check that out sometime. Looks like they're pulling from a similar group of voice actors both Japanese and English.

I read about it on myanimelist.com and how it's simular to 'Chobits' and it looks like something I might watch when I'm older since it looks alot darker then 'Chobits' is.

Is that because the characters have similar ears?

No, it's because both of them are about a guy who finds a girl that lost her memory. 'Elfen Lied' is darker since the girl got shot in the head which made her lose her memory plus it has alot of violence in it.

You might like the English dub of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Crispin Freeman = Hideki = Kyon = narrating = funny
Michelle Ruff = Chi = Yuki Nagato = both very powerful

I'll also add Scrapped Princess for the same cast reasons (Crispin Freeman, Wendee Lee, Bridget Hoffman, Kari Wahlgren). The main character doesn't know her true destiny, and the plot is fairly involved.

If you're wanting to go the ecchi route, there's Midori Days, where a guy discovers his right hand is a girl.

The prequel to Chobits is Angelic Layer. You'll recognize a few of the characters in memory.

And of course there is Tsubasa Chronicle which merges Chobits characters with other CLAMP offerings. Most of the Chobits characters (Sumomo, Kotoko, Ms. Hibiya) appear in the RPG world in the last third of season 1.

You can try the anime "Clannad," it's also by CLAMP (the person who created 'Chobits'!
