Christmas At the River Cottage

Show Summary

Christmas at the River Cottage is a cooking series special that aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom and was hosted by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Whittingstall is a British celebrity chef and campaigner of organic or "real foods," as he calls them, all of which has made him popular on television for his back to basics approach towards food. In this series, the viewers witness the host's efforts to become self-reliant while placed in tight quarters. Christmas at the River Cottage shows Whittingstall preparing for his first Christmas at the cottage by harvesting sprouts from his vegetable garden and using a pig on the land that eventually turns into a festive ham. Along the way, the host also takes an opportunity to enlighten the audience on the art of goose keeping. Eventually, he gives an educational lesson on three different ways to make a dish using goose, while also making cider apple brandy butter. The show comes to close with the host going to sleep in front of the yule log he had found earlier in the day.moreless
