  • A good solid return after the olympics break

I enjoyed this episode but if I had to be critical I would say that they figured out who the murderer was a bit too quickly, and are we really expected to believe that two years earlier the detectives didn't look more closely at the possible links between a fatal hit and run and the bunggled ranson drop off on the same day in the same area? Still despite this City Homicide still manages to throw a bit of a twist and a turn at the end.

Still despite these slight criticism's it is the Sgt Stokes show and he's a caracter I've grown to enjoy so I hope we'll see some more of him in the future. I do like that he has to face the consequences of his actions at the end of the show. Too many show's play hard and loose with this sort of thing, never holding the charaters responsable for their actions or putting in some pitiful excuss (the charater is placed on supervision) until the audiance forget why and then leaving it. Even in the last season when he got shot and left for dead by the end of the episode he's acting as if nothing happened. The show deserves credit then for having the guts to make him (and by proxy us) suffer the consequences if for nothing else.moreless

    • (Sparkes looks into Maurice's car and sees the asbestos mask inside, before Simon pulls up in his car)
Simon: Looks like your mate beat you to it.
Sparkes: Looks like none of my mates listen to me, no matter what I tell them.

    • (After Maurice and Sparkes manage to get away from Rachel Markham)
Rachel Markham (Yelling) I'm going to bury you bastards!

    • Sparkes: Just be careful Maurice. We're not as young as we once were.
Maurice What she [Rachel Markham] gonna do? Kill me? She can join the queue, behind lung cancer.

    • (After Jennifer kisses Sparkes goodbye on the cheek)
      Sparkes: Bugger me!

    • Sparkes: Stanley - keep that young Joyner in line. He's prone to doing stupid things.
      Stanley: You've taught him well.

    • (About the ransom pick-up and the hit and run accident)
Sparkes: Unless you believe in coincidences, which I don't, these two are connected.

    • Bernice: (To Sparkes) Wilton, you've gone too far this time. I can't help you. No one can. It's up to Command now.

    • (Sparkes is staring strangely at the road near to where the ransom money was picked up from)
      Simon: What is it Sarge?
      Sparkes: I know this place.
(Flashback to Sparkes investigating a hit and run accident several years ago)

    • Sparkes: (When confronted by a 3 metre tall fence) How do we get around this?
      Simon: Not around Sarge. Over.
      (Simon climbs over the fence)
Sparkes: In your dreams Joyner. (Sparkes goes the long way and takes a few minutes to walk around to the other side.)

    • Joyner: (when Sparkes gets back from having to explain his actions to Superintendent Waverley) She ream you a new one?
Sparkes: Not personally but she booked me in for the operation.
