Episode Summary

1993 World Series, Game 6
The Blue Jays wanted to repeat as World Champions. They did everything in their power to to win it in their home diamond.

The Phillies were desperately trying to force a seventh game, and they knew it was in the hands of the original Wild Thing. Relief pitcher Mitch Williams, who wore the same #99 jersey as the fictitious Rick Vaughn of Major League fame, was on the mound. It was all up to lose.

The setting was too perfect. Joe Carter came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with two Blue Jays on and too few out. What happened when Mitch fell to the mound on a 2-2 delivery made Joe Carter a legend.

What they don't tell you is how that pitch literally destroyed Mitch Williams's career. He has been compared favorably to the ex-long-snapper Trey Junkin.

Now, ten years and no Blue Jays pennants later, Mitch and Joe are reunited via satellite to review this one game. And Phillies' fans are crying out to ESPN Classic, "Why didn't you revisit the sixth game of the 1980 Series with Tug McGraw and Willie Wilson?"moreless
