Mrs. Young is reading K.C. a story about an investigator named "Detective Mike." It's a good story and they get to the end of it, so Mrs. Young suggests that K.C. go and play with his friends. K.C. does, he finds Clifford, Cleo and T-Bone at the park. There, something mysterious has happened. The merry-go-round has completely disappeared. There's only an imprint in the sand where it used to be. The dogs don't have any idea what could have happened the merry-go-round, but they want to find out. K.C. tells them about Detective Mike. He can solve any mystery, except for one problem, he's not real. K.C. suggests that they could, however, learn some detecting tips from Detective Mike's stories. He says that the first thing Detective Mike does is a stakeout. After clarifying that a stakeout has absolutely nothing to do with steak, he and the other dogs setup and conduct their stakeout. They spy Charley going through the park, with some sort of suspicious box. K.C. notes that the next thing Detective Mike would do would be trail him, i.e. follow him and investigate. They decide to do this, although T-Bone remains behind, to continue the stakeout in case anything suspicious should happen while they're away. They follow Charley, and Cleo investigates what's in his box, but it's nothing but crabs, it turns out he was delivering them to his Dad's restaurant. The crabs were a dead-end, so they decide to return to the park to find out how T-Bone's stakeout is going. Upon returning to the park, they see that not only the merry-go-round, but also the rest of the playground equipment has now vanished. Worse, T-Bone fell asleep, so he didn't see anything that happened. Fortunately, there's a Detective Mike solution for this: they'll follow the tracks that were left and see where they take them. They follow them to a van, where there, they eavesdrop. It turns out that the playground equipment wasn't stolen, it's just been taken temporarily to be repainted. Mystery solved.

"Camping It Up"
Emily Elizabeth, her family, and several of her friends are going camping. Everybody's excited, except Jetta. She doesn't see why anyone would go camping voluntarily. She's come prepared, though, she's brought her own tent setup, complete with stove, TV, VCR, nice bed, and more. Emily Elizabeth invites everyone to come along to go see a waterfall, and Jetta comes along reluctantly. She wears headphones, drowning out the sounds of nature and listening to music instead. When everyone else is busy admiring butterflies, she plays a portable videogame. Even the butterflies gathering around her aren't enough to make her look up. When they reach the waterfall, she won't go in. Instead, she pulls out her own heated pool, complete with toys and misses out on all the fun. Back at the campsite, everybody roasts hot dogs over the campfire, well, everyone except Jetta. To the ire of Mac, she stays in her tent, eating a TV dinner. Mac whines and begs to go outside, but Jetta says that they're having a nice meal indoors. That night, while everyone's outside admiring the beautiful night sky, Jetta stays indoors, watching a video. Emily Elizabeth comments that she wishes Jetta would come out with them. In the tent, Mac looks out the window plaintively. Jetta gets up from her video and contemplates the night sky, agreeing that it's a lot more beautiful than the night sky back home. Saying that she's doing it for Mac's benefit, she joins everybody outside. She finally gets in on some of the fun she's been missing, even seeing a shooting star.moreless
Jetta: Did you see that Emily Elizabeth? It was absolutely amazing.
Mac: I think maybe Jetta and I have been missing a lot of fun around here.
Emily Elizabeth: And it's so quiet... Jetta: Yes! I made it to level 20! Woo hoo!
Jetta: You can help me hook up my VCR. Emily Elizabeth and Mary: VCR?
Jetta: I just don't get it. Why would anyone go camping on purpose?
Charley: Looks like curiosity got the best of you this time, Cleo. I was just taking these crabs to my Dad's restaurant.
K.C.: The first thing Detective Mike usually does is a stakeout. T-Bone: Stakeout? Mmm... I love steak.
K.C.: Detective Mike can solve any mystery in the world.
