    Is this show based on the books, like the other Clifford show, or was it written specifically for itself as an entirely different project?

    Well, there's very little source material to go on for it. There was an original Clifford's Puppy Days book and the show does retain the idea that Clifford was the runt of the litter. But Daffodil, Evan, Shun, Nina, Jorge, Nina, etc. are all original ideas.

    But then, even the original Clifford series was based only loosely on the original books at best. Cleo, T-Bone and most of Emily Elizabeth's friends on the show were all added for the TV series.
