Clifford doesn't even realize it's Valentine's Day until Norville tells him. Norville notes that he's seen Jorge, Flo and Zo and Evan all giving Valentine's Day gifts and he's even working on a necklace for his Mom. Clifford decides to make a gift for Emily Elizabeth, but Daffodil sees what he's doing and makes an even fancier gift. Pretty soon, it's an all-out competition to see who can give Emily Elizabeth the better gift.

Daffodil: It's as if she would have liked anything we gave her. Clifford: Uh, maybe that's it.
Daffodil: I don't understand. She didn't say which present she liked better. Clifford: I know. How come? Daffodil: Well, one thing's for sure. She's definitely going to like my room clean-up better than your bed-making. Clifford: Oh, really? We'll see about that.
Daffodil: Maybe I should make Emily Elizabeth a Valentine too. After all, it would be a shame to let my artistic talents go to waste.
Daffodil: (sighs) What on Earth could that puppy be doing now?
Mr. Howard: I've got one more secret for you. Emily Elizabeth: Really? What is it? Mr. Howard: You're not dancing on my feet anymore.
Emily Elizabeth: Wish me luck, Clifford I'm going to a dance!
Emily Elizabeth: I mean, we don't actually have to dance, do we?
Emily Elizabeth: I'm never going to be able to do this. I've only got one hope left. Clifford: Ruff ruff. Emily Elizabeth: Maybe no one else I know will go to the dance. Clifford: (whimpers)
Emily Elizabeth: What am I going to do, Clifford? Clifford: Ruff ruff. Emily Elizabeth: I like to move around to music, but I don't know how to really dance. It's going to be so embarrassing.
