Steve: This is un-freaking-believable!
Annabeth: What?
Steve: Some kid at a youth league baseball game just bashed another boy's head in with a baseball bat!
Det. Williams: I don't think he's just teaching these boys how to compete.
Annabeth: He's teaching them to literally "beat" the competition.
Maureen: (to Roger) I have seen this a thousand times, and stealing is just a symptom of a much bigger problem.
Jack: I'm sorry, you don't, you don't kill people at fourteen, you know. You read comics, or stare at girls, try to take your own braces off...
Annabeth: You tried to take your own braces off?
Jack: With pliers.
Annabeth: Chris, do you understand what giving a sworn statement means?
Chris: Yeah, if I lie, you'll put me in jail.
Annabeth: Well, I wouldn't go that far.
Annabeth: I can't use it in court unless I know what he said.
Thom: You don't need sound to know, he didn't say nice game son.
Cassandra: It's not a big deal.
Maureen: A scarf, earrings, a silk blouse? It's a big deal to the store.
Jack: I do know I want to try again.
Annabeth: How many times?
Jack: At least enough to cover the infield.
Annabeth: (laughs) Wow.
Jack: You know, sometimes it might be pretty great to have a son too. You wanna help with that?
Steve: I heard you really snaked the guy today.
Annabeth: Is that the legal term?
Steve: Good going.
Annabeth: I'm sure they'll say he was provoked, maybe even swung in self-defense.
Detective Williams: Nice, blame the victim.
Roger: If you don't want to help out your own family, fine. That's your choice, but don't tell me to pay attention to my wife, because I am the only one who pays attention.
Steve: He's a coach Annabeth, he gets in your face, that's the job.
Judy: I never imagined my little boy's funeral. I imagined his wedding day, his graduation day... but not his grave. Not standing over his grave.
Maureen: Danny, don't say anything to anybody.
Danny: About what?
Danny: I, um... just... your... I don't know how to say this.
Maureen: Try using words.
Danny: Your sister's been arrested.
Annabeth: (to Sam's parent's) I don't think you understand. Ben died on the way to the hospital, this is a murder case.
Maureen: We aren't seeing enough of each other, but that's going to change.
Cass: We can pick up trash together, along the highway.
Maureen: Not on your life! Nice try, though.
This episode was originally titled "Little League Murder."
This was the second episode filmed after the pilot episode, but CBS decided to push the episode back for a few months.
