CBS has apparently nuked "Jericho," dismissed "Class" and closed the book on "Close to Home."

Net wasn't commenting Tuesday, but several people familiar with the situation said none of the skeins has been given a series order for next season. "Close to Home" had been considered near dead for several months now, with "Class" on the longshot list, but there had been speculation that CBS would exercise some patience with "Jericho."

Eye skeins getting better news this week include "How I Met Your Mother," which has been picked up for a third season. Eye's most buzzworthy laffer might seem to be a no-brainer for renewal, but CBS execs make producers sweat it out until the last minute.

End for "Close to Home" comes after two seasons for the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama. Cancellation also means that, for the first time in many years, Bruckheimer will be losing a show from his still impressive slate of hits. It's also the second consecutive year Bruckheimer has failed to place a new show on the nets' skeds.

"The Class" is a heartbreaker for the small audience of the Warner Bros. TV-produced show, which seemed to find its creative voice toward the end of its shortened first season. It also produced stable ratings in the 8:30 p.m. slot, but the show's lofty auspices and huge pre-season hype had CBS execs hoping for more.

As previously reported, "The Unit," "Numbers" and "Ghost Whisperer" will be back next season, as will "NCIS" and all three "CSI" skeins.

Sole CBS frosh drama set to return is "Shark." Eye is also moving forward with another year of "Rules of Engagement."

Hehe I posted the exact same thing like two minutes after you. Stupid CBS...don't know good TV when it's staring them right in the face! Like I said in my thread, let's just hope this unofficial source is false!

It's disappointing, but Close to Home was probably CBS' weakest procedural drama and since they already have Shark, this was expendable.

I'm not a bit surprised but still, I hate to hear it!  Its a great quality TV show w/o about a bunch of raunchiness or an elimination spot each week.   What more could a person want?  I just wish the ratings were there.  Kudos to  CBS though, they have given this show ample time!

Unfortunately it's true.  The problem as far as I'm concerned was the time slot.

I sad to see the show go. But if it did come back for another season I wouldn't of watched it because the only reason I watched was for Kimberly Elise.

I think the series left with a pretty good amount of closure. There really wasn't any loose ends except Annabeth's new relationship. Other than that, it was a good 2 year run.

I think its a show called moonlight (formerly twilight, he he) and it's about a vampire who tries to help people or something along those lines, correct me if I'm wrong

Close to Home was going to get the 13 episode renewal next year from reliable sources.

But they faced budget problem was the reason why CBS canceled it and the show cost more money than CBS able to recouping the profit from it. That is reality of TV business nowadays. It isn't the high ratings that guarentee a yearly renewal, it is whether the show is very cost effective to maintain. Even Law and Order the original faces budget problems and had to lowered their budget, it is one of the highest rated shows for NBC standards.

I was very sad, and shocked. I never thought they would ax Jericho. That came out of left field. But, alas and alack, Close to Home was only a matter of time. But, the series finale was a very just ending, I think. No cliffhangers. I always like a finale like that. Anyway, may you rest in peace, Close to Home!

I read they are replacing it with some vampire thriller. Ugh. Sounds like I'll have to start taking a break between Ghost Whisperer and NUMB3RS. With Close to Home there, it was just a straight TV marathon. Now what am I going to do?
