I really loved this episode, it was just amazing. Once again I'm not exactly sure why I liked it so much, but I did. I think the whole part with Jack getting fired was a very good twist, it was interesting and it also made me mad. But then at then end I think he got another job, so all is good now. And just the general plot of the episode was good. I was hooked the minute it started. I really wish that they would come up with a Close to Home season one dvd so I could watch this episode again, but oh well.
You'd have to already know some law (or be screwed out of a home) to appreciate the storyline and character development... though the main characters were a bit 'thin'.
I recently experienced exactly what happened with the characters home. We made an offer on a home (which was a re-possession) and the appraiser WE CHOSE (which was on their approved list). The real estate company tried to "steer" us to use their appraiser, which I wasn't about to. I chose my own (the mort. broker had nothing but good things to say about him going in...) but when the appraisal came back $12,000.00 LESS than our offer... well, all of a sudden he was this and that... basically a guy was was "bound and determined that property values were WAY over-valued around here"... I agreed with the appraiser.. in that there was no way on earth that house was worth what the seller was saying it was. The bank is actually commiting fraud when they a) sell the house for more than they repossessed it for AND b) keep the 'profit' for themselves. They're supposed to give it to the first lien holder if it wasn't satisfied in the repossession, and the 2nd lienholder etc. After the liens are satisfied, then the balance goes to the person who they repo-d the house from.
That is, if the banks and lawyers were acting according to the law, but see they NEVER DO. AND they keep hoping that you and me will never find this out. They keep on taking us to the cleaners and one of these days, this whole house of cards will fall down.
I REALLY liked this episode and hope when America finds out what the banksters and lawyers are doing, there will be a revolution!
I SO wasn't expecting this plot. So here's what happend: This guy gets ripped off buying a house and reckons it, so he stops by the realtor's office to talk to the boss. The workers dissmissed him but he came back with a truck throught the office, now THAT was funny , I thought he would go kill someone the next day, but he came back in 2minutes with a truck! NICE.
So he gets trialed but while the trial Annabeth & co discover that there's much more to this story. We saw that there was profits of 3 million $ in fraud made by the parent company that builds the houses.
So as the case goes forward, we also see that it wasn't only about the real estate fraud, it was also a bizzar relation between two brothers and a sister that loved sharing ;)
It's a good twist that I didn't expect :O
I didn't see any problems with the episode, it dragged itself just like other episodes do. I liked it, so it deserves more then an 8. Also, in this episode we learned that Jack Chase lost his job because of the rich CEO... I wonder if he's gonna get another job or something? Too bad there's only 2 episodes remaining for this season and I hope to see another season. I love this show.
I was willing to overlook the unnecessary bad hair and unusually bad writing because I like the videography (is this the correct term?, the actors, the producer and overall premise of the show. However, despite all this, I have to say I'm actually embarrassed for the actors. The writing is so incredibly bad. So bad in fact, that even my loyalty to all the great actors involved, will not allow me to sit through another hour of this pain. Goodbye Close to Home. When you get some new writers, or directors, let me know.
