  • Each year 5,000 young hopefuls apply for what they think is their dream job – a rep with youth tour operator Club 18-30. Around 100 make it. This new series goes to Gran Canaria and follows the everyday working life of the small team there.

The buzzing resort of Playa del Ingles, on the Canary Islands’ Gran Canaria, is the second largest resort in Europe after Benidorm. It’s a popular all-year round location for Scandinavian and German tourists, as well as British holidaymakers of all ages. During the sun-drenched days it’s the spectacular Playa del Ingles Beach and unique Maspalomas Dunes, full of pure white sand, which attract holidaymakers. At night the large purpose-built shopping complexes move from tax-free shopping havens to become a magnet for those looking for bars and clubs. It’s the Brits home from home - restaurants, markets, bargain designer clothes and lots of sunshine. Club 18-30’s Area Controller here is 27-year-old Ash Moore. This is his first year in charge of the team and understands how tough it is: “From 10am to 2am you’re with your guests. You’re on call 24 hours a day which takes a lot of effort and means you don’t get much sleep!” Clubreps can work round the clock, six days a week. The Clubrep is the focal point of any Club 18-30 holiday. A mix of local expert, social catalyst and peer group leader, each rep has to be competent to deal with everything from a lost passport, broken heart or even a death. There’s no such thing as an average Clubrep, they come from all walks of life and are recruited on confidence, enthusiasm, personality, stamina - and balls! This – the third series of Club Reps - has evolved from the previous two to take an in-depth look at just how tough life can be for resort staff and how hard they work to ensure every guest has the holiday of a lifetime. Helen Alexander, Head of Factual Programmes at SMG TV Productions, says: “The reps are the stars of this new series and it’s clear that making sure your guests have a great holiday can be very tough. This has to be the most challenging summer job going and this series’ reps show just what it takes to last a season – personality, boundless energy and a great sense of
humour." The series follows the trials and tribulations, the highs and the lows, of the team’s summer season in Gran Canaria.
