Episode Summary

A Deadly Deal
Simon Charles is a financial advisor who persuaded some of the regulars at Arligton Grange to put money into a deal which went spectacularly wrong. Luckily, though, Simon didn't lose any money himself. And his advice now to his friends who did is that he has a way for to them to recover all their losses - but, of course, they'll need to invest some more money, first... Scarlet's virtue (or what's left of it, anyway) may be at stake, as a result of her losses. And Green has secretly lost £20,000 which Elizabeth Peacock gave him for a church restoration project. Mrs White risked her life savings on the first deal and now has nothing left for the second. Plum, meanwhile, learns that Simon's latest deal is connected with computer software which has been stolen from him. Who, then, had the greatest motive for killing Simon?moreless

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Mrs White: (her confession) Well, they're all alike, that sort, aren't they? Born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Think they can go on forever, taking people for a ride. They're greedy and arrogant. And they're patronising. Oh, yes. Oh, he came into the kitchen to see me. Below stairs, he called it. Well, I told him that I'd invested my life savings in that scheme of his and it was alright for him to give the others a chance to get their money back but what about me? I'd lost everything. And do you know what he said? He said.. he couldn't care less about a piddling little amount like that, and he just laughed. He laughed, and then he turned round and started walking out. Well, that's when I did it... Because that 'piddling little amount' was everything I had in the world. And I'd lost it all because of him. And all he could do was laugh. Well, he won't laugh again. I've seen to that.

    • (During cross-examination, it is revealed that Reverend Green had invested twenty thousand pounds with Simon Charles)
Mrs Peacock: Jonathan, where did you get that sort of money?
Reverend Green: I thought I was asked the questions by these people, Mrs Peacock?

    • Matthew Kelly: (about Mrs Peacock) I think she could probably have whipped him to death with her earrings!

    • Matthew Kelly: Your motive was terrible, Miss Scarlett. Not only did you lose that money, but you were going to lose a lot more, in that frock.
Chris Tarrant: Well, I think we understand Matthew's thought processes.
