Charity Begins at Home
AIRED:
Shortly before a charity auction is due to take place at the Grange, a window cleaner is found eavesdropping. Ben the window-cleaner is, in fact, a private detective hired by Mrs Peacock to detect a sneak-thief. Ben is soon dead. Who killed him? Vivienne Scarlett knew Ben had searched her bedroom, but what did he find in her drawers? Mrs White was the petty thief at the Grange, and Ben had found her hoard. Ben had also overheard Mrs Peacock and Colonel Mustard talking about a long-lost masterpiece they had found among the charity auction lots and hoped to buy for next to nothing, and Ben had wanted a piece of the action. And Ben had previously investigated the theft of £5,000 from the local church, in which the Vicar may have had something to hide. And Professor Plum had reason to believe Ben had fathomed the mystery of the missing Old People's Holiday Fund. So who killed the window-cleaning detective?moreless

    • QUOTES (6)

      • Mrs Peacock: (her confession) I can't stand anybody trying to make a fool out of me. Colonel Mustard told me that our conversation about the Turner had been overheard: by Ben. This man was under my employ and I was paying him a great deal of money and he tried to blackmail me, to come in on the deal. Can you believe it? Anyway, I was on my way to the cellar to look for more stuff for the auction and, passing through the kitchen, I decided to pinch one of Mrs White's delicious sausage rolls. Thats when I noticed the lead piping. From then, it was easy. I wandered through the house looking for him and found him in my billiard room. He was about to take a shot. I hit him. By the way, the auction was a great success. We got one thousand two hundred pounds for the new church roof and of course the painting wasn't a Turner after all. A shame that someone had to pay such a high price for a fake. He shouldn't have tried to blackmail me.

      • Reverend Green: Why should the best dog get such a magnificent trophy? Hasn't their sense of values taken a wrong turning?

      • Sir Clement Freud: A good cook would never make the sausage rolls at the last minute.

      • Nina Myskow: Do you have to pay for your own gin?
Mrs White: Now, I would like it put on record that I may have the occasional nip for medicinal purposes; but that does not mean that I'm a dypsoholic.

      • Nina Myskow: I can't ask Miss Scarlett, as she's just been asked, but I'm desperate to know where she got her ear-rings!

      • Chris Tarrant: Ben the Window-cleaner has kicked his last bucket.
