The Curley O'Brien trophy is the highest award bestowed on a coach at Minnisota State University. Hayden not only expects to win the coveted Curley O'Brien trophy he plans a party to celebrate his win with all his friends who also anticipate his win.
So when his arch rival Judy Watkins is announced the winner at the ceremony held at the Touchdown Club, Hayden who was already standing to accept the award saves face by turning it into a little victory dance with Judy and then quickly excuses himself after congratulating a surprised Judy who doesn't relish the win as much as Hayden would have.
When Christine arrives home to find Hayden moping in the dark she asks where all the decorations, food and cake are for the party. Hayden's answer to each question is "In the lake." All classic Hayden behaviour, who takes losing with as much grace as a wounded bear.moreless
