Code R

Show Summary

The adventures on California's Channel Island combined three different elements of life-saving: the fire department, the police department, and the ocean rescue department.

However, CBS failed to rescue the show from poor ratings opposite NBC's "Sanford & Son."

  • It was the pre-cursor for shows like BayWatch and Third Watch, and ran along side Adam 12 and Emergency.

Set in California's Channel Island this show was about the combined efforts of the Police, Fire and Ocean rescue squad. The focus was on a small island town, and not the normal big city although the situations were basically the same.

I seem to remember alot of young buff shirtless males, and a cool fire boat. Code R introduced me to the dimpled chin of Martin Kove, and the chisled pecs of James Houghton. It was like most programs of that time, -good clean entertaining fun- with no nudity, no profanity and a happy ending at the end of the hour.moreless
