Daniela was killed on May 12, 1979.
Goof: On the roof, Daniela hears the song Please Don't Go by KC & the Sunshine Band. However, high school proms happen in the spring (and she dies on May 12th). The song wasn't released until the fall of 1979, and wasn't a number one hit until January 1980.
Highlight below for a spoiler:
Nitpick: Blood tests back in 1979 (and certainly in 2004) could have revealed that the blood is not from a female victim. While it can be questioned whether Daniela had the usual male XY chromosomes or more unusual combinations of more than two chromosomes, s/he would have definitely had a Y chromosome, revealing that the victim was not a woman.
Chris: New York's only a few hours away, so if you're not busy, maybe sometime, I mean only if you want to, we can... go see the Eiffel Tower or something.
Highlight below for a spoiler:
Det. Valens: Mrs. Castille, you know this girl?
Mrs. Castille: Girl? That's my son. That's Edwin.
Det. Rush: Hey, Jeffries. Looks like this job might have died on us.
Det. Jeffries: That's not all that died. We just luminoled the scene. It's a bloodbath.
Daniela: Get some bread for this ring, get that jive turkey landlord off my back!
John: We wouldn't be here if that screaming bitch didn't run out on us.
Chris: Cuz you're a pervert, man. Cassie didn't want to be your damn porn star.
Chris: See, Daniela? I came back.
Daniela: That better be all, you hear what I'm saying? I got protection.
John: Bet you do, mamacita.
Chris: The Empire State Building.
Daniela: What?
Chris: It's on your wall and the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of whatchacallit.
Daniela: Pisa.

A part of this episode is based on the concept of "snuff films" which show actual murders made for cruel purposes. While the existence of such films is questionable, there have been rumors of homeless teenagers having been scammed into appearing in them.
Det. Jeffries: We just luminoled the scene.
Luminol is a chemical that can be used to detect traces of blood invisible to the naked eye. The chemical reacts with hemoglobin and emits a blue glow that can be seen in dark surroundings or, if photographed, by using a long exposure time.
