- Title: Disco Inferno The episode title is a reference to the song Disco Inferno by The Trammps. The song is also heard in the opening scene.

- Nightclub Fires This episode may have been inspired by the nightclub fire at the Station nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island on February 20, 2003. A rock band called Great White was performing at The Station nightclub when apparently the fireworks (for which the band didn't have a proper permit) used in the band's act ignited the stage. 99 people died and nearly 200 were injured. Earlier that week, on February 17, 21 people died in a nightclub fire in Chicago. The case may also have some similarities with the March 25, 1990 Happy Land tragedy, wherein a social club was burned to the ground, and almost 90 people died. This episode's storyline was also covered in episode 1-22: Tinder Box of fellow CBS crime drama CSI: Miami.
