  • Perfection.

This episode was absolutely brillant. It was definitely different and had the energy as well as the activity that goes along with an "officer down" call which is always a dreaded phrase. You truly felt it. I loved Lil's initial reaction of avoiding the hospital at first wanting to focus on the case. Her own shooting memories probably the basis. I loved the tease right off the bat that there was more to the Jeffries' shooting that wrong place wrong time. The fact that Lil's father showed up to check on her was a nice touch. It showed the connection is growing. I also appreciated that ADA Bell stuck around to show his support. I thought the twist that Francisco wasn't the shooter was creative but it was given away with the shoe clue. The icing on the cake was revealed that Pops saved Jeffries when he was a kid. You really felt for Nick throughout the episode from being his partner to his roommate. Gotta love Stillman standing up for the team to Doherty which I think is a situation that will rear it's head again. I think showing the teams reactions to the situation at the closing of the episode was important for them as characters and us as fans.moreless
  • While stopping at a local convinience store (of which he is a former employee) Will Jeffries finds the store's owner shot and mortally wounded. Things take a turn for the worse when Jeffries himself is shot and wounded.moreless

I am usually a bit weary when shows take aturn from their usual format to try a different approach. It has been tried on "Without a Trace" a few times and it did not seem to work. While this episode is not perfect, the change of pace seems to work here and work well. The cast is in top form as always. Except for the use of conventional plot elements which brought a little predictablility to the episode (Valentine shooting the assailant for example, or did he?) it is an episode worth seeing. "Cold Case" still delivers after numerous seasons.moreless

When you see the flash of the gun as it is fired at Will, you see Nick and the pain it causes him to see his friend and partner lying on the floor with blood everywhere. He calls it in Officer down and from there the story unravels. I really enjoyed being able to see how Will got his start in the early days and how that came about. This is what I like about this show. It does go into the characters lives and show what they did at a certain point and how they came to be what they are today. It felt like one of my own family when I seen Will get shot and I really love it when a television show can do that. I felt the pain of the team when they heard what had happened and how they rallied together to find out what happened to one of their own. In the end you see that Will comes out of surgery okay but it is sad to see that "Pops" died and how he helped so many people to be shot to death by some punk little teenager who knows nothing about life and I hope he gets locked up for a really long time.

I really thought this is one of their best episodes.moreless
