Episode Summary

A woman, who was romantically involved with Nick Vera in high school, claims that members of a fraternity might have been involved in her alcoholic sister's death in 1995. The victim's estranged husband and a bar owner are also viewed as potential suspects.

so ehy should it be such a shock that, with the various seamy characters in this episode (a bartenxder--who deals drugs on the side-- who trades a week's work to a lady drunk for oral sex, a frat boy who's cruising for a girl to have public sex with in a designated fraternity room)--the murderer turns out to be someone using his (actuaoly non-existant) status as a member of a "helping" organization to prey on weak, desparate women....but it is.

"Here's my card; call me at any time of the day or night." Brrrr...

Sloane, the victim, is a helpless drunk, with strong, distinctive features, which stand out against the mostly nighttime action of the episode. It's an interesting combination. We find out a good deal about Vera's and Scotty's past lives, and for a moment, I thought we were finding out something about Rush, but she was just setting the guy up.

"Ravaged" (beaten down by life, by onself or others) is not to be confused with "Ravished." (raped)

An alcoholic mother apparently murdered outside of a bar. A who done it question. Really shows the concept of innocent till proven guilty.

I liked the whole show. It really put the guilt on everyone; the victim, perpetrator, and suspects. However, only one can be guilty of the crime but plenty who contributed. In the end, you were glad the victim found her love through man's best friend despite what she did to her kids. It seems that show mixes in the obvious endings with the non-obvious endings. To keep you guessing. I kind of knew who did it but you weren't exactly sure. The role characters were excellent as well as the side story of Det. Vera and his former high school sweetheart.moreless

This episode is definately one of the darker episodes in the series so far. Not really a tear jerker like many of the episodes are, but definately a very good episode. Meridith Salenger was excelent in her role as Sloane, the single mother with an alcahol addiction, working at a bar (hmmm... i can already see a problem there...) and we also get a peek at Det. Vera's love life. As I said before, not one of those extremely sad episodes that make you wanna burst into tears when they play one of those sad old tunes at the end and Rush see's the dead person's spirit, but none the less an great episode.moreless

- Sloane: You don't want to end up like those awful girls Nancy and Tonya, do you? A reference to American figure skaters Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding. Tonya was involved in a conspiracy to attack Nancy at the 1994 US Championships. The plan was to injure her so that she could not compete in that year's Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Nancy recovered in time for the Olympics and won the silver medal (the gold medalist was Ukrainian Oksana Baiul). Tonya came in eighth. She is not allowed to compete in figure skating anymore because of her part in the conspiracy. She has tried to become a professional boxer instead and she has had run-ins with the law for various offenses. Nancy got married after the Olympics and had two sons.
