  • Why is the Vietnam Vet ALWAYS the bad guy in these show?

I just reviewed episode #37, Revolution. As soon as I saw there was a Vietnam veteran in the cast I knew that he was either going to be a drug addict, suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, and/or have committed an atrocity while serving in Vietnam. There was no doubt in my mind that he had committed the murder being investigated before the first word was spoken. As it turned out he was a drug addict, suffered from PTSD, was abusive, had committed an atrocity in Vietnam (which he got payback for), and of course killed his sister. WHAT A SURPRISE.

Tell me, why is the Vietnam Vet ALWAYS the bad guy in these shows?

  • (What does "Jumps the Shark" mean?) The body of a 19-year-old girl is found in her new boyfriend's appartment, the night he fled to Canada to avoid the Vietnam draft. When he's found in the States, with ID, after 35 years, he's fair game for the police.moreless

(firast aired 2/20/05)Did she mean to go with him? Did he do it, because she refused to go with him? Did the guy whe she abruptly threw over for him do it out of jealousy? No, it was her brother, the Vietnam vet. He'd been kicking heroin, and feels abandoned, wheelchair bound, his woman having left him, too. Why is it so often the vet? asked the other reviewer. Because, in modern warfare, one is trained to be a killing machine--even in a wheelchair!--and in modern warfare, one often gets addicted to hard drugs. (He remembers how he got paralized: a little Vietnamese girl opens her hand to him, with a grenade in it, because she remembers how he killed the rest of her family.) He's been staying with his sister, who's going to leave with her boyfriend for Canada.

Music is great--especially "Lay lady lay, across my big brass bed..." Rush kicks her sister out of her apartment, after Christina tells her it's Valens she's having an affair with. She still has the key to his apartment, though...moreless
