Goof: Although The Supremes' song Where Did Our Love Go, which the girls are singing along to in May 1964, was recorded on April 8, it wasn't released as a single until June 17 and later, on August 31, as an album.
Incorrectly Regarded as a Goof: In the scene where Hilary is holding her baby after just giving birth, Sister Margaret is seen wearing a golden ring. This is not a wedding band, as some have suggested. Catholic nuns often wear a golden ring that signifies their symbolic marriage to Jesus.
We learn that when Lilly was six years old, her mother purposefully lost her in the mall to get some booze.
Hilary West was killed in May 1964.
Karen: (to Hilary): You live on a street called denial.
Lilly: Abortion's illegal and no single mothers back then. Det. Jeffries: And no sex ed, either. Couldn't buy birth control unless you were married. Abstinence was the answer. Lilly: (smiling) That always works...
Lt. Stillman: What about this nun who ran Saint Mary's? Lilly: Saint Margaret's still alive and kicking in a convent retirement community. Kat: A community of retired nuns? Sounds like a par-tay.
Mrs. West: There is nothing so important as what the neighbors think, right?
Lilly: (showing her badge) Heard you got a real temper, Karen. Karen Watson: Take it you're not gonna order the blue plate special.
Hilary: What am I gonna do? Huck: (whispering) Just give the baby up. Hilary: She's our sunshine. Huck: I don't wanna be a father! Hilary: (a beat) You already are.
Sister Margaret (handing out rings): Wedding bands go on the left ring finger, girls. No need for anyone in town to know your... predicament.
John Stillman: (about Dr. Finnegan) It took six deaths for the medical board to yank his license? Lilly Rush: Doctor knows best. Kat Miller: Glad I was an unwed mother in the nineties, not the sixties.
(Hilary tells Huck about her suspected pregnancy.) Huck Oberland: It was just that one time. Hilary West: You told me it wouldn't happen the first time. Huck Oberland: It's not supposed to. Right?
Barbara Lakey: Are you close with your mother? Lilly Rush: (a long pause) People shouldn't have kids 'til they're ready.
